One thing to say positive about Dolan - he doesn't hesitate to go all in.

I think this is a Grunwald move. I think Dolan trusts his basketball guys and lets them run things.

did he trust walsh when he didn't want to make the melo trade (as it ended up being constructed atleast)?

That was under different circumstances as Denver was playing hardball with Donnie and Dolan did not want to risk losing out on a star and increasing ticket prices. Smith is no star. It was an easy signing cos we could offer more than double what the Clippers had to offer and Smith gets to come home

Without his best buddy Landry, Lin is lost. What kind of pre game pantomime routine can Jeremy invent with JR?

Nah, it just does not work. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Stop with the Fields man-love. He's a below avg SG.

Below average offensively and defensively. He constantly gets beat by quicker SGs. At 6'7 he is more of a backup SF/SG. SG's usually shoot well or at least are lock down defenders like Bruce Bowen used to be

No. I think Dolan is a more casual fan than most people that we know. I do think he knows big names, saw what the Heat did, hates Pat the Rat and wanted to move in that direction and got involved in something he knew little about. That being said, I don't think he has much of a role in a signing like Smith.

It will be interesting to see how D antoni manages the minutes of everyone once everyone is healthy

I really want Davis starting over Lin.

starting 5

Davis
Fields
Melo
Amare
Tyson

Lin
Shumpert
Smith
Jeffries
Harrellson

spot minutes to novak and walker

I don't think you want to rely on Baron Davis starting. You want Lin to continue to develop chemistry with Amare, Melo, Chandler, Smith. If you start Davis and his back tightens up you have to mess with the starting lineup again. Its important to build some continuity

Agreed. One loss does not send Lin to the bench

Let's go Knicks. That's amare

We're really going to need that depth as our schedule is about to get a lot tougher. It's a real shame we lost last nights game, as I think it was the last easy game we'll see for a while. We have the Mavs on Sunday, followed by the Nets the next day- I'm worried about that one because Deron Williams is fuming over the Linsanity thing, if you read that snappy interview he gave a few days ago. Then we have the Hawks, followed the next day by the Heat. This is going to be a really tough week.

Also if you look at the schedule for the rest of the season, nearly every team we face is a good team from now on:

We're really going to need BD, Melo, Jorts and Jr Smith to be effective reinforcements, and Lin to keep up a high level of play.

If the playoffs started today, Chicago beats NY in 5.

If the Knicks were 7th, Miami wins in 5.

Sorry, we're far from championship material.

Am I the only one that's realistic around here?

I'd have to agree with you. The future of the team depends on Carmelo's evolution as a player.

Umm, but the playoffs don't start today. What is the point of looking at things in this way when there are 35 more games to get this team to gel and get healthy? Even tho this team has looked shaky at times, it's really too early to make any lasting judgments. Once we get to the end of the season we'll know for sure what we have. Still have to see what Melo, JR, Baron & Jorts bring when they get in there.

This team isn't finishing in the top 4, especially if they can't beat the short handed Hornets.

They're looking at opening the first round on the road, and I won't be surprised if its another early exit.

But of course you will.

Did the loss to New Orleans hurt your feelings so much?

Sad but true. I love him as a backup yoot with the potential to get better if he keeps working on his game. And he seems like a good teammate/unselfish player.
