I don't think we need JR Smith. He is not a long term solution (as he will be looking for a big contract that we cannot pay) and I think he would stunt the progress of Fields.

The only growth he is stunting is the growth of Bibby, Walker & some Jeffries(but only when Jorts comes back)

So when we need that big steal in crunch time, JR is gonna make it while Shump is riding the pine? Or will JR be cool w/ not being in the game at that point?

We have enough offense and I'm in the "he might mess with the chemistry" crowd.

I'm with you, man.

We have to let Shumpdawg grow into a beautiful player. You inject him with confidence.

JR is old news! He is in the yesterday paper, the dust bin of history! Peace, guy! PEace out JR!

JR would be a bad mistake. I really like Shump and the 3 guard rotation of Lin, Landry and Shump with a little bit of Bibby is going to be ok. Really afraid of JR wrecking the chemistry with this team.

What future do we have with JR Smith? Does he make the team better this year? Probably, but he stunts the growth of the younger guys and next season we probably can't sign him for the money he wants.

Unless you think he is going to bring you a championship this year I think you pass.

I'm on the fence on this one.I like JR in that his shot is pure from 3pt land and he can finish like few can in the NBA.

I think the Knicks team chemistry is very sensitive at this point. The Knicks are probably mulling over whether it makes sense to risk that delicate balance, and potentially slow down Shump's development.

JR would be an upgrade over Shump/Walker offensively; he'd certainly be a better shooter than Fields... but they're all probably tougher defenders than the Smith of recent years. Smith has always had all-world athleticism... and perhaps much like Amare and Carmelo, has the physical attributes to be a good defender. In Chinese Basketball, he's been averaging 2.6 spg.

Here are his CBA stats: 35ppg, 7rpg, 4apg, 52%FG, 48%3pt. He's arguably been the MVP of the league.

Imagine for a second, if there wasn't any chemistry issues..............adding JR and sitting Bibby is a no brainer to all of us. I don't see why it's even a discussion (again, assuming no chemistry issues).

Chandler and STAT .....................would put JR in his place, period!

JR, Shump, walker, novak, Jefferies.............2nd unit will get a major upgrade...offense and defense!

JR can hit open jumpers........

JR has solid presure / man2man defense.......

He could be that championship piece we need to add. That added swagger type player, just to give our team even more confidence.

I don't think JR would be a chemistry problem, on a team full of solid character guys.

Plus, with this short season, the deepest team may be the team to win it all.....Due to injuries! So for this season, and in MDA's system, it's ok to over load at certain positions......Especially since we've been saying all season (before Landry starting playing better)......

That we are weak at PG and SG......Now we have a chance to actaully be strong at those same positions, by the emergence of LINSANITY (PG) and adding JR Smith (SG).

I think we are a contender right now. Hell, most people saw us as an elite team once we added Chandler, and now with Lin in the equation? Thus said, even though we have championship talent, the team is flawed and JR addresses our team's biggest weaknesses.

This is a compacted season. We've already been bombarded by injuries. We have no bench scoring, so instead we have to overplay our stars to stabilize our offense. Depth this season is vital. If we can limit the minutes of our best players we effectively prevent injuries and can keep the roster intact.

But the crux of it is this: Why worry about the development of our young role players when the goal is to win the championship in the primes of our stars? God only knows how long Amare's knees will hold up, how long he can sustain all-star numbers.

because Shumpdawg is giving me every indication that he's ready to ball at a high level in the playoffs.

At some point you gotta give it to the young guns. They have to develop at some point. What better time than this season? You throw them in that water.

Remember Tayshaun Prince? Guy came out of nowhere and dropped stupid-ill buckets for the Pistons in the playoffs, he locked people down. Shumpdawg can lock people down in the playoffs; defense doesn't choke come high water.

Like Andrew said, yea, maybe JR gives us a short-term boost this year. But then he runs off to get payed so he can feed his family. And we're left with our asses without underwear, the confidence of Shumpdawg shot and his development stunted because we couldn't trust the guy to ball hard and lock people down in the playoffs.

Defense doesn't choke come high water.

Is a starter on the Knicks....you would have to bench Landry.

So in that respect I don't think it works...bench Landry and you eliminate novak from the equation. It changes everything and like someone said, if you add baron eventually you have a deep bench now. Dantoni likes to play 8 guys only...Jared, jorts, novak and shump deserve to play as is. Drop melo, baron and Jr smith in the mix and you have to almost dump everyone down the chimney

Catastrophic effect on Knicks. JR ruins everything we have brewing in the coffee maker.

we did that last year with fields; convenient how most people forgot his disappearing act when it mattered most.

Adding playoff veterans will help the young guns feel more comfortable in the postseason by showing them how to win games, instead of just throwing them out there with huge responsibilities like deer in headlights.

He isn't necessarily a starter. But regardless, JR takes away Bibby, Douglas and Walkers' combined minutes. Novak still backs up Melo in limited minutes at SF. Shumpert becomes bench PG. Fields plays bench SG.

He had to get that out of the way, and we were far from a well-meshed club in the playoffs last year. Melo was there throwing wrenches into the spokes, you had Amar'e with the injury, COME ON, MAN!

This year, we're feeling good, Lin is dropping dimes, he's getting the entire team involved, you got Landry smiling and giving witty interviews with Jill Martin.

Plus Shumpdawg takes some of the heat off, he'll lock it down for you, he'll swipe the steals, he'll do that for you and all Landry has to do is be Landry.

Year 2, progress.

JR, all he will do is throw wrenches in the spokes. And he won't even be here after the season to clean the bleeding scrapes up, the broken bones. He's going to get payed.

its not clear he's any improvement over Shump/Fields at SG. I would rather have the high IQ guys

ESPN just said Denver GM said he's going to talk to JR about a contract.

My Gawd, JR is such a cancer
