The Clippers and Knicks are clearly the frontrunners, but the Clippers blew their money on KMart and only have the min ($1 mil) to offer JR. I like our chances guys.

Again, we won't do sht in the playoffs if Novak is the only reliable shooter on the roster because he is most comfortable at SF, and playing him and Melo together will result in a defensive liability as one will be forced to play out of position.

Yay, I want to start JR Smith (as Fields is more comfortable on a bench unit without stars)
Yay, I want JR as our sixth man (in the mold of Terry, Harden, Ginobili, etc.)
Nay, I'd rather lose in the playoffs because of packed defenses
I say we get him just so that way Indiana and Chicago don't pick him up

So what if they pack the defenses in during the playoffs?

Pretty sure Melo, Novak, Lin, and Baron can make opposing Ds pay and then it'll be right back to the PnR when they are forced to adjust.

Has everyone forgotten that this dude isn't a solid defender? Fields and Shump are gonna be relegated to the bench, so JR can play the turnstile and leak down the floor for easy dunks? No thanks

I laugh when someone mentions Baron Davis as a sure thing. The guy is done. We'll be lucky if he suits up all season.

Check the second vid in the OP for JR's defense. Definitely underrated.

that depends on what I meant by "thing," and obviously from the context, it implies an asset or useful commodity rather than just an old, hobbled man taking up space on the bench

Videos are fun

You got me on Baron. I am unwavering in my support for him and think he can still play, but you never addressed the point I made. Do you think that Melo, Lin, and Novak can't knock down open jumpers when the D collapses in the playoffs?

Retirement.

But seriously, though, I did say "we'll be lucky if he suits up," which does somewhat excuse my offense.

I was for the move when Landry was really struggling now I'm undecided with both him and Shumpert playing well. Don't really want to see their minutes cut but I'm still leaning towards signing JR. Maybe there is a way to juggle SG/SF mins between Fields, Shump, JR, Novak around and move Billie Walker to the end of the bench where he belongs. For one it is a short season and you can keep guys fresh for the playoffs because like '99 the teams with fresher legs will advance over the tired older teams. Two we could always use a shooter like JR come playoff time incase Fields & Shump go cold and BAron struggles with his health.

Do the Knicks wants to go into the playoffs with SGs who cant actually shoot? I doubt it.

Landry Fields and Shumpert arent shooters. Trusting them to become shooters in the playoffs is a formula for disaster.

We NEED JR Smith. The guy has proven he can produce in the playoffs.

on the other hand, Fields and Shump NEED playoff minutes to gain the experience the team needs grow thru

They can get that experience coming off the bench. If Fields and Shumpert show they can produce in the playoffs they will get minutes. Depending on them to provide needed outside shootings isnt smart planning for the playoffs.

When we signed Amare and traded for Melo we went into win now mode. Developing rookies who may or may not turn into solid players is not a priority.

But couldn't one also say Fields and Shumpert need the minutes in order to show that they can be productive? I agree that JR is a good offensive player, but my thing is that the Knicks would be sacrificing on D while he's playing and then it ultimately becomes a wash.

Sure Shumpert has made some rookie mistakes, but the guy can play some serious D and if it's crunch time in a playoff game against Miami or Chicago I want him in guarding Wade/Rose, not JR, and it's not like MDA can make an offensive/defensive switch every possession. We will have plenty of offense to rely on.

Do people realize that they are voting that they would rather have the Knicks lose than rather win with Smith. What kind of fan would want their team to lose.

Also Smith is as good of defender as Fields. It is what it is. We wil find out shortly what is going to happen.

I'd say it's pretty certain he's going to the clippers- as I've said in the past, as soon as Billups went down he dropped the hints about the Knicks, and focused in on the Clippers. His most recent tweet is a re-tweet of this:

And from tonight: Chris Paul says he sees Clips' chances as "very high" when it comes to race for @therealjrsmith: http://es.pn/xnrjUQ

Don't see why CP3 would lie, and also why JR would re-tweet it if it wasn't true.

So I suppose the real question now is: do we cut Bibby, and if so who do we sign out of d-league? Also I guess we're also lucky we didn't sign Keith Bogans- he had a season ending injury with the nets last week.

The Clips blew their money on KMart and only have 1 mil to lure him with.

My thoughts exactly....However, If Baron cant make it back this season, then JR would be a good pick up as we can slide Shump over to play back-up 1.

I think JR will choose NY because he's from Jersey and we have more than double to offer. If we don't get him its because the Knicks feel he isn't necessary

JR Smith is only 26 yrs old too and at this point he is better than Jamal Crawford. Old Jamal Crawford is worth 5 million a year. So getting Smith for 2.5 million is a steal. Sadly he if we get him it will likely be a 1 season rental.
