Suns can't be too greedy as Nash has been an icon for the team and bought them great success and revenue.

At the same time, if they can get a second round pick they should try.

Why?

First and foremost if they don't plan on bringing him back then they should buy him out to let him get with a contender or the team of his choice (hope its us!). They owe him that.

All good runs come to an end so its likely they are orchestrating his exit as gracefully as possible.

Maybe he plays out the season?

Nash won't request it cuz he looks bad if he does. Suns don't trade him unless thats what he wants. A buy out is graceful with the statement that they want to play youth and Nash gets to move on.

Good idea 'bout buying him out. But: are the suns that kind of organisation? I know the Knicks are not...

If they will trade him, they can't ask for much, maybe some peanuts. He is walking end of year anyway.

But I would even give them Shumpdawg for Nash.

Nash can come and mentor Lin while also dropping ill-nasty dimes and taking this team to the Finals.

about nash and lin i agree with you.

but aside from the fact that, as martin already stated, there is no chance for a trade salary-wise, that is exactly what i would hope to stop some day: trade a talented player, drafted by us for an aging savior...

Dont get me wrong: Nash would be perfect for us and is much further away from the end of his career as he should be. But to get him now, maybe 6 month before you could get him in free agency, by trading away assets is whats hounting this organization for decades!

Give the Shump For Nash?

Lets be real, Nash could retire, he could sign in LA, he is not a lock to stay in NY!

He could sign with Heat!

We can't give up Shump for anyone 38 years old and no guarantee.

My thinking is you can't really pay Baron any kind of real money given his back and history. Nash is no spring chicken but has been reasonable injury wise and is the perfect man to run the point and perhaps mentor Lin.

Nash won't commit until MDA is locked up with a contract.

This is how you build a culture. Coach, his greatest player and mentoring a future generation.

If Nash has any coaching aspirations, he could be assistant then take over for MDA who kicks upstairs.

Its building a culture. It starts slow.

Right on, Nalod. Very well put. No way I give up Iman for Nash, but if we can base the trade around BDiddy and TD, with another minor piece, cash and a late pick or two, we do it. Nash could help us win now AND help mentor whomever is going to take over after him (Lin?).

Let's do it.

And if not, Go LIN go!
