Lin had to be killing it in practice. In time they gave him more rope to see how he handled it.
He passed.
That is being flexible.
Like they say on TV, how many practices was he able to participate in with this crazy schedule? Not many. They scooped up the kid, got him into playing shape and he learned the system.
My take is good coaches are not flexible. They believe in their system and want the players to adhere to it. Phil Jax had his way and you either played for him or you sat and were gone. All great coaches do this.
Yes, within that structure there has to be elements of flexibility. Keep an open mind.
MDA was accused of not playing rookies. He does. He has accepted (out of need) players without experience and they have earned big minutes. Extra E and Lin are two examples.
He is not perfect nor are the players. AR, Jordan Hill and Darko were bad fits. This is no different than most teams but we don't follow them like we do ours.
Golden State tried to get DeAnne Jordan and had to clear cap by releasing Lin. In hindsight, they should have tried to move either Curry or Ellis and developed Lin. Good teams grow from within and trade to enrich the roster.
Sometimes a player just needs an opportunity. MDA gave it to him. Did he have a choice? YEah, he could have rejected adding Lin and instead getting another "anthony carter" veteran player.
Instead, he accepted him, practiced him, and when he was ready, inserted him.
Give the man credit. It happened.
