exactly if JR will not accept the 2.5 u got for best player avail. All u got right now as insurance for Amare is a rookie in Jorts and he is injured. and who knows if chandler stays durable for the 1st time in his career. Much rather pick up the best player avail with the 2.5 than a scrub like sessions who just another pg with weaknesses like the ones we have now

The Knicks could sign Kenyon Martin for the vets minimum....I think the Knicks need a guy like him to rough up guys come playoff time. I have no beef with the dude. Tim Thomas was right to be angry at the Knicks for that fiasco back in the day. They injured our best player, straight took him out and nobody did anything. Kmart, Kidd and RJ all played us during that time. Embarrassed us. But who wasn't? If we can forget Melo sucker slapping Collins and then running like a bitch then we can forget this.

As far as JR Smith....he can only sign a huge contract with a team under the cap. If he wants to make money for next year. He should come to the Knicks and play well. Resurrect the Knicks and he gets his bread. If he does it the Knicks will go over the cap to resign dude....not sure how this new cba works but I think teams can go over to resign their own players

Anyway JR doesn't have to do the room exemption...he can take the vets minimum just like Kmart for the remainder of the year and worry about long term next season

but JR's father claimed $2.5M wouldn't be enough for JR, so if Kmart is actually willing to come here, he's good Amar'e or Tyson insurance.

Ask yourself - who is the back up to Amar'e right now? or Tyson?

Over Sessions?

how the heck are we getting sessions? i would LOVE sessions... but find $4.5M on this roster to trade... caveat is that $4.5M in salaries has to include a player cleveland REMOTELY wants. toney makes $2M and no one wants him. landry? maybe... but he doesn't make enough money. maybe landry and balkman...? i guess? and would cleveland even want that?

wojo also saying the knicks more interested in JR than Kmart. given our guard rotation, i heartily agree:

Knicks were hot on Kenyon Martin early, tailed off, and checking back now. As @HowardBeckNYT says, focus on JR Smith. NY needs guard help.

I hope JR accepts the 2.5m I have an inkling he will go with the highest bidder but I'd love to be proven wrong. There is no wing player out there worth signing and unless we're trading melo/amare we don't have anything to offer for a SG with JR's talent

I'm not crazy about either, but if they sign one, I won't be mad. Won't this create a glut at SG though? Or do they finally slide Fields to the 3 and JR into the starting 2?

I wish that the Knicks would've just signed Reggie Evans rather than JJ. Anyone who has seen Clips games can see what a valuable player he is. He would've been a terrific backup C and would've solidified the front court rotation making this discussion about KMart irrelevant.

JR is a head case but they guy can play. Maybe he takes the $2.5 to play with Melo again?

I thought you were probably right, but they're actual even and both on one yr deals.

Per Hoopsworld:

Jared Jeffries $1,229,255
Reggie Evans $1,229,255

That infuriates me.

i've watched a bunch of clips games this year and the difference between jeffries and evans is not the difference between those teams. it's guard depth.

I know and agree, but I'm not debating that. Knicks are seriously lacking with their Guards.

Don't wanna highjack the thread. I was just saying that the Knicks probably wouldn't even need to consider signing KMart if they had a guy who is great as a defender, rebounder, acts as an enforcer/agitator and plays old school type basketball. A little Oak/Mason type stuff.

In a shortened season with a shortened training camp Jeffries makes sense for NY. D'Antoni likes him and is comfortable with him. I wish the Knicks had Evans. It would have been interesting if they signed Evans and kept Chauncey.

ah, okay. i misunderstood.

well, the really sickening thing is Bibby is signed for the same amount. jeffries is somewhat useful at least.

K-Mart can do pretty much everything Jefferies can do on d and he is better around the rim. You still need to Keep Jefferies because of K-Marts health and the need for rest but I doubt he will log that many minutes.
