1. Take an unflinching look at the Knicks roster in the context of Miami, Chicago and Philly.

2. Avoid any wet fantasy of "dreck for talent" imaginary solutions

3. Assess at the Knicks drafting position over the next two years and, with a straight face, anticipate all of those picks becoming instant rotation players.

You don't need to convince me. I don't think we really have any assets outside of the big 3. Landry, Jorts and Shump are rotation players we need to keep. No one will give us a bag of chips for TD. China players may be our best prospects and then more amnesties next off season.

They should look at seriously asking Stat/Melo to reconfigure their contracts to free some cap.

I agree. I mean melo especially since the reasons he wouldn't wait until FA was because he wanted as much money as possible

Why are people mad at Melo for trying to get a max contract? He wasn't going to free agency period.

I think the Knicks are two or three contributors and probably a new coach away from being a contender. Ideally one of those contributors (a starting point guard, really) comes from the mid-level in the offseason and the other comes for either the minimum or from the draft.

Why do people always jump to conclusions? I am not mad at Melo getting his money. I would too. But if he wants to really win in NY he now has an opportunity to reconsider his money where there is no risk of losing a huge chunk because of the CBA. His contract is guaranteed, he can extend the term by a year and take less per, or however they can work that out. Same goes for STAT.

I do not think this kind of chitting is allowed by CBA even if you can assume crazy idea that somebody in America will agree to give away millions of dollars... May be at gunpoint...

One thing that seems to be a general assumption based on the 1st 20 games is that none of our role players can play better than they have. Fields is already playing better and other players are coming around. They're role players and we really don't need them to carry the action. We just need them to play their roles. Thank Goodness Fields is playing better. TD as a SG is starting to get better and if we can get Lin into the mix that can help our guard situation.

We still have Jorts coming back. Jordan seems like he's gonna be a player we can get something out of in the future. Then we just have to see if we can pick up one of the China players and if we can get Davis healthy and playing well. So much is still up in the air. We may have answers to our some of our problems on the roster already.

Huh? The new CBA allows teams and players to restructure contracts. No one said anything about giving away millions. Suppose Melo was getting 15 M per for the next three years on his contract he can now agree to take 12.5 M per year for the next 4 years instead. At least that's my understanding. This means we free up $2.5M of cap per year. < actual numbers maybe different>
And Melo goes from having 45M guaranteed over three years to having 50M guaranteed over 4, where is he giving away millions?

TKF on Melo ::....he is a punk, a jerk, a self absorbed out of shape, self aggrandizing, unprofessional, volume chucking coach killing playoff loser!!
