Wouldn't having Phil Jackson as the Knicks coach to win us a ring would be like having sloppy seconds or thirds??

I want a pure climb to the title with the guys who sweat and bled from the start. Right now we've built this team. They've been thru camp and a tough start and as they go thru the season, they will have been tested as a group. I want this group to succeed together and not have some guy parachute in just to grab the glory. Let Jax stay in retirement. Everyone acts like he's the only coach that you can win a title with.

Honestly, as much of a fairy tail it is to win it all with MDA I,d much rather have results. Not that I am not willing to give him another season,I am. Just want to see more, that's all.

Tyson Chandler is not bad but he isn't a real offensive force without a great PG.

Between Chandler and Amare, I think Chandler is the slightly better post player but that just isn't part of his game.
Amare doesn't have post moves, so I don't know how effective the triangle would work for us...

bulls didn't really have a post player in the triangle until late in jordan's run in chicago when he became one.

No Post players?
"Mission: Impossible" confronted Da Bulls as they embarked on defending their first NBA championship. There was the inevitable pressure of repeating, which alone can break a club. There was the broken left hand of starting center Bill Cartwright, which has kept him out of 10 games so far.
What about the absence of Cartwright, the awkward but integral pivot man? In winning the championship, Chicago was fortunate to go almost all last season without serious injuries to key players. Will Perdue, who is as clumsy as Cartwright, mans the post now, but guys named Jordan and Scottie Pippen have taken on additional responsibilities. Da Bulls are 9-1 without Cartwright, as Jordan and Pippen have helped them win by an average of 11.7 points a game.

i think i'd rather see d'antoni win a championship than phil jackson.

i don't even know if phil would come here. he usually only goes somewhere that has the best player in the league. this roster would be his greatest challenge ever. not sure he's up to that and the ny media, which he knows quite well, with his age and his hip and his girlfriend being the daughter of the lakers owner. i think he's pretty established in LA and montana.

don't think phil will come. and, come on, i hate the guy.

Phil is a knick and his mentor was Red Holzman. He is welcome back.

I prefer we win with MDA and create a new legacy. MDA has suffered with change and disappointment also.

Regarding Phil, one must remember the Bulls were not even close to championship caliber and Phil helped Jordan become a self centered highlight stat whore to become a trusting of his teammates. He was not the great Jordan we all came to hate but respect. Go look it up.

The lakers also were not winning championships either when he took over. He also took a young Kobe and guided him.

Don't get me wrong, Jordan-Pippen and Kobe-Shaq are great tandems but if you look a the rosters that surrounded them it was role players. Guys like Rick Fox? Luke Walton? Will Perdue? Bill Wennington? and the flake Dennis Rodman. Jax coached Rodman and got a lot out of him! He was able to coach Artest when no one else could. He elevated Reezy. The man can coach.

Hate Jax cuz he was a winner is one thing. But to throw it out that he went to ready made teams is not truthful.

He is welcome home. Damn shame we never had the vision to give him the chance Krause did. Krause was an ass, but he hired Phil with his first head coach job!

That's like saying Riley got all the cred he needed by sitting on the bench handing Wilt and West water and towels when the Lakers won. Let Jax/Ritter/Triangle go someplace else...

Besides, Jax won it all in Albany first!

interview/feature on phil. he doesn't seem like he's in too much of a hurry to get back to coaching. it's a long article, i cut some excerpts, link below:

http://www.nba.com/bulls/news/phil-jackson-coach-again-never-say-never.html#.TwsM2XzAc4A.twitter

So Phil, I finally had to ask after we had gone through the usual familiars about health and family, do you want to coach in the NBA again?

“No,” said Phil Jackson with his practiced, slightly bemused look.

“I don’t,” added Jackson, though there rarely is a finality to the declarations of the never say never dreamer. “But that doesn’t mean I won’t. I don’t think I’ll coach again. I’d like to see if there’s another side of basketball, perhaps. If I’m back in full (health) activity at a level I want to be active at, I may not even want to go back to coaching.

“I may want to pick up where I wanted to go, maybe ride a motorcycle around the world, do something that’s much different,” Jackson said possibly musing about his own bucket list. “I don’t think I’ll ever run marathons. I don’t think I’ll ever be able to do that again. But have the kind of activity I’d like to do. Fly fish and still be able to do some of the things I’d like to do.”

....

He’s living in Los Angeles after spending the summer at his Montana home.

“With my level of activity it’s not a good idea to be on ice and snow,” Jackson said. “I don’t have that kind of mobility right now. I did have a garden this summer in Montana, a very fruitful one, and enjoyed my time there. I wouldn’t rule out living somewhere else. But as you know (I moan about the Chicago weather all the time) to be able to spend the winter months outdoors and not feeling trapped is a great weather situation. It’s been nice to have been here a decade or more.

“The older you get,” he went on, “the harder it is sometimes to weather that (winter). But you also have to do what interests you, what you have enthusiasm for.”

....

Jackson said he hasn’t watched much basketball this season, though he’s pleased the labor situation finally was resolved. He said he watched part of the Lakers/Bulls Christmas Day game and has tried to stay away from the team to not interfere as the Lakers go from the system type approach Jackson believed in a more traditional NBA game individual game.

“I think they’re learning the system, coming together,” Jackson said. “They’ve got new pieces. Speed isn’t what they want it to be. This is a team that’s been used to playing whatever level of half court and taking care of opponents with execution. With their new kind of way they’re going to play I think they’re going to have some speed and some easier baskets and easier ability to make some points. I think they’re a team in transition, so to speak, and we’ll see some changes. I don’t think they’re done changing the personnel.”

Jackson said he likes to watch Miami “because they’re so talented. They’re obviously a real threat with those two players. I like to watch Chicago because they really play defense and work well together, support each other really well. Dallas isn’t that much fun to watch, not quite as exciting. The Oklahoma City team is fun to watch. They’re still young and have come a long way in two years. They have a chance to show this year as a big team.

Don't see Phil Jackson coaching next year. It would take a ridiculous offer and ridiculous roster for him to come back, and only team that fits that criteria just gave their coach a 2 year extension (Spoelstra). Then again our owner is James Dolan, so the price tag part isn't an issue...

Can't imagine him agreeing to work under Pat Riley. That would just be too much for the Zen Master.

who is Phil going to win a title with here?

You guys are so funny. Phil would be Larry Brown part II

Jax would take his $10mm a year, then get just as far as MDA would have.

For the player apologists let me get your excuses out in advance:
He didnt really want to coach again, just take the massive payday
The GM didnt give him the role players he needed
.... cmon people, chime in anytime

The one good thing for me is after every loss I could start a new "fire Jax" thread.

So would winning a ring with Phil Jackson feel like having sloppy seconds or thirds? I don't even think this thread was about MDA.

I don't think Phil Jax has the fire nor the hunger for a championship run.

Phil Jackson won his first championship ring with us so we're not exactly sloppy seconds.
