I actually don't. I think the Jorts love after his one good game was over top, but Shump seems to have something special.

What good is love if it is half-assed? Love is SUPPOSED to be over the top.

Funny. You call it "over the top" and in the same breath invoke MVP Derrick Rose.

The way Shump commanded the floor and directed traffic?

Look in his fierce eyes. I see the competitive fire of Michael Jordan.

Like we were saying, the next bunch of idiots who reflexively boo the Knicks selection for the cameras on draft night, gets the gas face.

Thank you Donnie Walsh. We miss you.

I have to tell you, I recall Kobe's first year in the league and Shump reminds me a bit of him but bigger, stronger, shorter.

Darn quick lateral movement.

Believe it or not this was Pringles pick. Singleton was Walsh's first choice, but decided to go with D'Antoni's pick because of the logjam at 3 and 4:

According to multiple sources, Walsh took a poll of the Knicks' war room, of all the scouts and basketball staff, and there was a split between Shumpert and Singleton. Walsh then turned to Mike D'Antoni, who said he wanted Shumpert. That's when Walsh declared, "Shumpert is the pick" and the selection was submitted.

Sprewell sells Shumpert short. Tear the ceiling of the sucka. The young mans career is not ten games old and he already shows flashes of a unique temperment that can change a game with his comprehension and intelligence. A freakin' rookie.

We could be in for a treat.

The only thing he needs to really work on is taking the ball to the rim. He pulls up too much when he doesn't need to. He can take it all the way to the rim and gather fouls or extend plays for a pass off for other guys to get layups. It will come with proper coaching.

All The Answer Man knows is with Shumpert in the game, for the first time this season, our beloved Knicks (down by 16) started looking like a team that had a sense of what to do on offense AND defense.

who cares who he plays like?

Imagine what he will play like when his knee is 100 per cent.

"Get that man a masseuse, quick!"

TD is still nice rotation player to have on our bench.
His defense/cheating and his way of stopping penetrating needs major work.
He isn't a facilitator but can get hot shooting good 3 pointers.
Iman might not be a pure PG, but he is better than anyone we have besides Baron Davis is back.
He is better of both ends, on the defensive side, hes not letting opposing PGs to drive in effortlessly.
We still need a lot of work to improve on, it seems like our defense is the worse in the league and we catch players that do well vs us.

I thought it was over the top and I was all in on it. So where's the conflict?

TKF on Melo ::....he is a punk, a jerk, a self absorbed out of shape, self aggrandizing, unprofessional, volume chucking coach killing playoff loser!!

If TD is on any elite or top level team he doesn't see the court. We can't expect to be a top level team and have a guy like TD in our rotation. We need to upgrade asap. Have we had that many awful players in NY that we can't see lack of talent?

The Knicks bench needs an upgrade. TD is not so nice a player to have on the bench.
If his defense needs major work, that is another reason for TD to take a seat.
Three pointers are a cheap way out of running continuity. Layups win games.
Iman is as pure a basketball player as there is on the roster. Forget the silly labels of PG, SG, MPG or GNP.
The Knicks are a work in progress. Defense comes with trust. Go big or go home. 6'5, 6'7, 6'9, 6'10, 7'.

Some of us postulated what it could look like when we played the big lineup. It was nice to finally see it in action and it looked pretty good. We didn't find ourselves in any serious mismatches and the reaction time totally changed. All of a sudden everyone could get back to their man cuz of the speed and range of Shump.

I think back to that lateral movement video I posted before the draft, where Shump is leading his team in doing the drills and you could see his cat like quickness back then.

man, shumpert was a REVELATION tonight.

i didn't think he was a point guard, but tonight he looked like the best point guard on the roster who isn't wearing a suit. he's just got that something special. his confidence running the point and directing both melo AND amar'e to their spots before delivering the ball is something that has been missing since felton left.

i thought this kid could be a sprewell 2 for us, but now i agree - there are no comparisons, just sit back and enjoy. let the kid play 38 minutes a night and see what he can do.

i think he should be the point guard until baron is healthy. i like toney - i might even suggest starting toney as the shooting guard and play matchup defense with the backcourt. move landry to backup 2/3. let toney focus on spot up shooting and defense as the starting SG. let landry bring hustle and energy from the bench. starting backcourt should eventually be baron and iman.

but for now - the confidence and poise this kid has is special. let him run it. that third quarter was the first time all year this team's offense has had ANYTHING resembling a flow to it. first time all season i can remember melo and amar'e scoring at the same time from their chosen spots. shump for president.

Shump Life

As for running the offense Shumpert said, “I’m always pretty comfortable. ... It don’t matter if I come off the bench, if I start, it doesn’t really matter. When everybody comes in they got to do their job."

Labels do not matter. Shumpert understands flow, tempo and spacing and that makes him a basketball Albert Einstein.

The sight of him directing traffic (the frontcourt veterans included), while dribbling the ball confidently with his head up, brought tears to my eyes. The interior bullet pass to Stoudemire was a thing of beauty, which we ALL know is a joy forever.

No to Toney Douglas as the starting off guard. Too small to defend bigger people at that position, too slow for the lightning bugs like John Wall.

Say What?

“You have to be careful grasping at straws,” D’Antoni said. “There is no evidence that (starting Shumpert) would work. We’re going to hold steady and get better at what we need to get better at and then worry about the other fluff stuff later.”

Fluff stuff?

Oh I get it, the matter of who starts a game is "fluff stuff" to D'Antoni. Okay, he considers Toney Douglas' frame of mind fragile to make a change.

"I still want to think about it,... We don’t want to lose Toney, but we’ll do what we have to do."

Lose Toney. Please. It's up to him to earn his minutes.

"Anytime you throw a pebble in the water there are ripples,” D’Antoni said. “I just want to make sure the team is good (and) healthy mentally.”

Good and healthy mentally? What is this, a daycare center or a group of man?

The prime directive, as first made plain by Red Holzman (who would sit starters in a heartbeat, no matter who, sometimes ALL of them), is crystal clear.

"You suck. You sit."

I miss Shawne Williams.
