Sigh, 2nd game and we are doom and gloom. He is exactly what this team needed, a defensive minded center, was the best available and we got him. Not to beat a dead horse, but we have back court issues which is causing problems on offense and on defense. Td and Landry are bench players at best, they start for us, there lies the problem

Assuming we didn't get Chandler, and had the cap space for the offseason, who would you sign instead out of 2012's unrestricted free agents? Cross Deron Williams and Dwight Howard off the wishlist as they'll be elsewhere, and remember we would only have had about 13 mil.

I would not have offered him 13 mil per...Maybe 8-9 mil with have enough space for other signings...Do you think he is a 13 mil per year player?

After two games, your right.

But that was his market value. Are any of them "worth it"?

On nites they win it is.

Before Chandler played here, did you know he had zero offensive game other than the alley hoop?

I think you are fooling yourself if you really think Chandler had much of an offensive game before we signed him. Everyone and their mothers knew there wasn't much there besides setting good screens, cutting to the basket, cleaning the offensive glass and once in a blue moon, hitting an open shot.

He was brought here for his defense.

We all know why he was brought here...He fits perfectly into the front line...But did you think we were getting a guy who averaged 1 or 2 attempts at offense per game??..Or a guy who will show nothing other than a catch and dunk??

I did know that. The guy probably never has a play called for him. Would it be better if he had some moves? Yeah... but it would be better if Melo and Stat were better defenders too. They all have flaws.

I dont think this shows that the Knicks overpaid - I think it exposes the defensive issues this team has without Chandler in the game.

The GS game was fine when Chandler was not in foul trouble. On nights that Chandler picks up quick fouls I can see this team struggling big time. We also need a 3rd scoring option which hopefully Bdiddy will bring. Reality is that when Melo and Stat are off on their shooting, this team is in deep trouble. Unfortunately they are the types of players who could be off enough for us to lose 50% of our games.

Like many have said, a PG will hopefully get Amare to rely less on his shooting and more on attacking the rim, that would help a lot.

Until we have someone who can spread the floor for Melo and Amare this team is going to have some pretty rough games.

I would also pay whatever it takes to get Ewing in as a big man coach.

It's not like he is a demon on the boards either or an insane shot blocker...He's ok...He is getting paid more off of what's around him and not his own efforts...I just think we overpaid for what we are getting...

Agreed the team around him made him better but there is no reason Amare and Melo can't do the same. We need a better bench too. Did we overpay? The jury should be out on that until mid season. This is still training camp.

Yup. Chandler is a good player but we bought high - right after the championship. I'm not convinced he's more valuable to a team than Billups is, especially when this team was fine with Amare at C.

The team had almost no offense and no defense last year. It was still Melo and Amare trying to create for themselves and TD chucking 3s. How that was better I don't know and sure as heck was killing Amare with the physical strain. Chandler's rebounding will go up when our perimeter D picks up and he doesn't have to fly all over the place. He is barely ever in position for rebounds trying to fill in gaps left by our guards on defense.

TKF on Melo ::....he is a punk, a jerk, a self absorbed out of shape, self aggrandizing, unprofessional, volume chucking coach killing playoff loser!!

All I'll say is, after we signed Chandler, this board was filled with praise for the move. In fact, I do not recall a single negative comment. So after two games following a ridiculously short training camp, I think it's a bit absurd to start panicking over Chandler, even though he clearly has looked weak so far. It's two games. He'll be fine (as long as he stops picking up stupid fouls).

Also, to point out Chandler after watching how we have zero guard play is also not fair. I really do not think we need to worry about the front line too much. Right now, our Big Three are playing without the benefit of decent guards -- without a starting-caliber point guard, and without a starting-caliber shooting guard. You need guards in the NBA. We don't necessarily need great guards, just solid NBA starting guards. And right now we have no one on our roster who is even close to being a solid NBA starting point guard or shooting guard.

And I won't drag D'Antoni into this at this point -- I have promised myself to give him a bit of time this season before I really start slamming him.

I meant we have no starting-caliber guards who are healthy right now. Hopefully Davis and Shumpert will be back soon enough and fill the huge void. But until then, it will be a battle.

Um, I dont know what some of you were expecting with Tyson. He looks fine too me. You can only expect put backs from him. If he had an offensive game he'd be Kevin Garnett.

He is basically an older Deandre Jordan and Jordan got 9 million per.

The thing that people seem not to have noticed was that in the 1st half of the GS game they shot 36%! The team wasn't allowing any penetration. Things broke down but that is going to happen with this team until it get's an infusion in the backcourt. I think overall this team isn't really clicking on all cylinders yet. Maybe we're at 4 Cylinders out of 8! This is not even close to how good this team is gonna be if they get the Backcourt sorted out. That's gonna take time. Chandler IMO is making a difference on D, but the total team defensive chemistry isn't there yet.

A team with 2 guys in the top 6 in PPG had no offense?

^^^ That was the extent of our offense. Melo put the team on his shoulders but ther was no flow, no rythm, no consistency.
