Aren't we still under cap though? Isn't that what we were targeting Crawford with, whatever's left?

i would love to bring bdiddy in, but we gotta make sure his knee is right. not sure how legit or severe his knee injury is (he also might have just been trying to angle his exit)

i don't think Baron clears waivers.

with bad back? could be close.

i mean, what's the minimum bid a team can put in. is it worth $25,000 to see if Baron can still play? MJ's a gamblin' man.

no. knicks were using the mini exception aka the room exception of $2.5M to bid on crawford.

you can't use that exception to bid on amnestied players.

we are over. went right up to the cap to sign tyson, then over when they signed iman, jorts and jeffries.

What I don't understand is, after the trade, we should have salary left to spend?

Did we have to use to sign around rookies?
or
Could we sign FA's first, should have been around 4.5m to spend?
If we sign FA's first, then sign the Rookies...
The whole labor deal messed the whole thing up? I just want to know if the Knick's messed up
or if they are trying to save money going this route? Not spending more money then they could have...

Would love to pick him up. If healthy would be a better fit than Crawford. However, there's no way he makes it through waivers. Zero chance.

JJ2 and bibby were worth just a tad bit over 3 mill combine, and that went against the cap

ahhhhhhhh. Apparently this also needs to be explained in every thread.

The Knicks were over the cap with Chauncy, so they amnesited him and traded Turiaf to get enough room for Chandler.

After the Chandler signing the Knicks were OVER the cap, so now they can use the vet min to sign players like JJ2 and Bibby and their rookies. The rookies and JJ2 did not effect their cap, it was Tyson that did.

They are now left with the $2.5 mini MLE for teams that are OVER the cap, those under get the full MLE.

I think Bibby and Jeffries were both good signings for the vet minimum. Hopefully things work out with Davis but those guys are good value signings. Not a fan of Jeffries but in a shortened season there are many reasons to have him around.

If we sign Shawne for the 2.5M can we still claim Baron for the Vet min. Even though we're over the cap after signing JJ2 & Biddy?

you can always sign a guy to a veteran's minimum deal, no matter how far over the cap you get.

it doesn't matter how much baron is paid - his total will can't be higher than his original cavs deal. any money he gets from another team just means the cavs owe him less.

only thing that stops baron getting to knicks is if someone claims him.

and i think someone will, tho he's come up with an interesting strategy to try to prevent it.

Stop reading what articles say and do the math for yourself....

Knicks were under 60m after withdrawing Derrick Brown.

Billups was 14.2m

Turiaf was 4.2m

18.2m- 2m = 16.5m

Tyson Chandler salary stars at 12.5m

My question is the 4.5m left over.

Can you throw it all at 1 or 2 FA's? and we are still suppose to have a 2.5 exemption...
Why can't we sign a contract worth 4.5m first
then
sign
Shump
Josh
Jordan
JJ
Bibby

to put us over the cap?

The knicks are currently over the salary cap. Therefore, they can only offer players either the veteran's minimum ($1.4 million), or use their mini-exception ($2.5 million a year, or $5.1 million for two years). They do not have the full mid-level exception to offer because they temporarily went under the cap by releasing Billups before signing Chandler.

man, you don't give up on hitting your head against the wall? Repeatedly.

You are totally convinced that the Knicks had $4.5M and just forgot about it LOL

CAP HOLDS. I give up after this. And where does it say that Chandler's salary starts at $12.5M? I have not read 1 figure on what it actually is.

http://hoopshype.com/salaries/new_york.htm

I am not talking about the MLE. I am talking about the left over cap space

Knicks Salary is UNDER 60 after rescinding Derrick Browns offer.
actually about 59.6
billup 14.2
turiaf 4.36

18.56

- Chandlers 12.5 starting salary.

and Salary is at 58m or so so subtract 2m as well

We should still be under the cap, before any more signings at this point.

But
over here
=========================================================================???????
We Signed our rookies, and offer 2min contracts out, to put us over the cap

b4, we signed our rookies, and 2 min contracts, we could have used that salary to sign a FA instead of using it the way we did....
