Holy crap, things have really gone crazy the past 24 hours. Does he go to Lakers? Bulls? Nets? Maybe Clippers? These past two offseasons are the best thing to happen to the NBA since Jordan.

BTW, for a team that is losing a lot of $$$, NOH just took on a huge amount of contracts.... I see more trades coming with NOH.

2012 lakers:

(assuming a 57 million cap)

they have a player option on bynum and paul will be a FA. i believe they can let both of them "wink wink" become free agents.

they have blake and fisher making a combined $7.4 million. kobe at 27 million. that puts total team around $34 million. they amnetsy either luke walton ($6 million) or artest ($7 million). assuming they do luke, they'd still have around 17 mil to offer a max deal to dwight.

so they offer a max to dwight, and then they can go over the cap to re-sign their own free agents. i think that's how it works. so you assume they go over the cap to sign CP3 and bynum, and, while they will be paying an absolutley ungodly amount in luxury tax (they'll be like 25 million over the cap; prob will pay like 50 mil a year in tax at least), they will field:

PG - CP3
SG- Kobe
SF - "metta world peace"
PF - bynum
C - howard

with blake and fisher off the bench. and then probably a bunch of guys playing for the veteran minimum chasing rings.

i can't remember a day this insane

Personally, I believe that they'll trade for Dwight without an extension; just like they did with Deron. The Russian will sit them down and tell them, "Listen, you're each the best player the other has ever played with. By far. Sign extensions with us and next year the two of you will be the faces of a brand new team in NYC. And I have enough money to buy draft picks and spend the MLE so we'll bring in the players the complement your skills."

well put martin...yet they could also hope name brand products (lakers!) will net them something in the short term, given paul's apparent exit no matter what...

Gasol is on the decline and Odom is an old, overpaid, overrated player.

I wouldn't say Gasol is declining that badly. He had a bad playoffs, but a good regular season. I kinda wonder what this means for David West tho.

Gasol had major personal issues in the playoffs and struggled. He's human. He had an outstanding regular season and is definitely in his prime. The Lakers got an awesome player but they gave up too much. This looks like a panic move after one bad playoff season.

cap holds for cp3/bynum? not sure your scenario works out. you can only sign your own free agents OVER the cap if they are still yours... meaning they have cap holds, right?

If Pau and Odom are going to the NOH for CP3, I don't see Orlando taking Bynum and filler for Dwight Howard.

The fix can't be in like that for the Lakers. It's time that the Knicks get some love.

This short FA frenzy is going to be crazy... Transactions galore.

Another season, and more adversity to persevere through. We will get the job done, even BETTER than last year. GO KNICKS!

I think Howard will be a Net. They have given a good offer and I think they need a commitment from the Magic or they will back out to pursue other free agents. I also think that is why the Nets have been so quiet. They have a ton of cap room.

This is a risky ploy for the Lakers, if they don't get DH. Bynum will never be healthy, they just lost their front court.

And Dwight will reply, "Yeah, thats cool but it's pretty cold out here."

I have yet to hear the particulars of the deal, but I'd doubt that LA would risk trading Gasol and Odom without assurance that CP3 would be locked in after this season.

It would be hilarious if the Lakers traded for CP3 without any guarantee and he leaves LA high and dry to sign with the Knicks. It's all mere speculation now, but I'm anxious to see how it all pans out.

The last thing I'd want to see is Dwight Howard going to the wretched Nyets. Best case scenario IMHO is for teams like the Nyets and Celtics to come up empty on star player pickups during this FA period.
