If you knew that waiving Amare next offseason would result in the Knicks signing Dwight Howard and either Chris Paul or Deron Williams, would you do it?
YES! HELL YES!! Even if Amare is super healthy...
Yes, but only if Amare is showing signs of physical decline...
No way! You don't do that to the player who brought the Knicks back...
No. It's not an upgrade...

so if you knew that we'd get the two superstars, you'd say "no way in hell." or are you just saying no way in hell it happens? because my question assumes we'd sign two max guys if we waived Amare. i think this is a far-fetched scenario for sure. but as of now, it seems more realistic than expecting CP3 to take a $5M per year pay cut to join our team. we won't have max space next season. perhaps someone else here can lay out a realistic plan to sign a third max.

i know there's no requirement that we have 3 max guys to win. i'm just assuming that this is what we're going for. at least according to the rumors.

it would be really messed up if we did that to Amare but imagine if after losing out on Lebron we held back for Howard/melo/paul. Great defense, pg play and offense. That would've been one help of a Knicks dynasty in hindsight! You cant fault the Knicks for wanting to finally turn things aound last year. We just gotta roll with what we got now which is also very exciting.

Would u be able to waive Amare even if he is healthy? eViL you are problably right it is a more realistic way of acquiring a big 3 because howard & Paul could split the money. Also is there anyway they would allow Amare & melo to re-work their contracts to sign Paul like they do in the NFL?

i gotta say no. amar'e revitalized this franchise by just signing. i just don't think you can do that to the guy that got the ball rolling to where we are right now.

yes. they can waive Amare regardless of health. i do not believe the players could restructure their deals.

i hear ya. well, i wonder what's gonna happen. we got a lot of cap space. just about $5M short of a max slot. and we really have no way of making up the space. Amare and Melo just make too much combined. of course we could use the space to flesh out the roster. that is probably the most likely scenario as of now.

honestly, i'd love for the team to stablize and focus on finishing touches, but i'm not sure i wanna get attached to shump and the rest of the supporting cast. after the way Gallo and Chandler got traded, with the majority of fans saying "forget them," i'm surprised there's so much loyalty to Amare, who, despite his stature as a true star, has only played one season here.

Chris Paul might sign for $14 million a year. In New York, he should be able to easily make up the $2-$3 milion he loses.

two reasons i've keyed in on Amare:

1) his injury history
2) i think Melo and Howard fit better

I feel Amar'e is a real Knick! Still waiting for that same feeling about Melo. STAT gave everything he had for this team last year. He was clearly spent and then he pushed himself to play injured in the playoffs. STAT was like Willis Reed for this team last year, in terms of leadership. I just have a real feeling of loyalty for STAT now as having earned his place as a Knick. Melo will have to play this entire season and give max effort too for me to have the same feeling about him.

Howard is hard to pass up, but in this case I just couldn't do it.

how do you get past the back injury so easily? do you not see the strong chance that we're looking at LJ2?

and before you start championing Amare's heart and competitive spirit, no one is doubting that. he's tremendous. however, i can't say i look forward to watching another formerly explosive PF convert his game to below the rim jump shooter status.

Time will tell about the back injury and you are most likely right about it. IMO, as of right now, call it misplaced loyalty if you must but Amare stays a Knick.

Amare earned his salary last year. Loyalty is really fabricated on emotion.

Amare Left PHX because of they were not loyal to a 4 year deal as teh knicks were.

Lets not pin him the purple heart just yet. The guy has guts I'll give him that.

He earned his money. Can't say that about many players.

NO F*****NG WAY! Howard is not a fit in NYC. Beside, CP3 is NYC bound anyway. I'm calling it now 11/30/11 at 2:13PM - CP3 will be a Knick and I we will see a banner raised in the Garden.
