Melo had nothing to do with us getting passed the 30 win days. We were passed them before him. Playoffs and regular season combined, we then went 14-18 with him.

Are we really stuck on this idea that the 14-18 is really what this team is going to be like going forward? Is it Melo's fault the team was out of synch? Too many of you are basing things off how the team did when he got here last year, but that's not what this team is going to be going forward.

It's not like Melo will have to do this all on his own! What I would add is that STAT wasn't really seen as a leader until he got here. Sometimes players have to get out of comfortable situations to discover who they can be. Melo did in fact step up and give a greater effort here and I have faith that he will continue to be in that mode. Melo showed improvement on D and even being a more efficient player. All the team needs is time to develop chemistry and for Melo to learn how to really work in this system. Don't make the mistake of thinking we saw the best of this team last year. We're looking at a 50+ win, 2nd rd or more playoff team going forward.

Very few players are true leaders like a Magic or Bird right out the gate, but that doesn't mean they can't be winning players. What I tend to focus on is what Melo CAN give us. We have a player in Melo that isn't afraid of the big moment and contrary to the prevailing talk he's led a team and won in College and I think he's matured enough in the pros to be ready to help a team win in the NBA.

We now have one of the best game winning shot makers in the league and he doesn't shrink in crunchtime or against the best players in the league!!! Melo gives us an equalizer against the Kobe, Durant, Lebron, Wade, Dirk or Rose in this league. The rest will be up to the other good players on this team too. CB & STAT of course, but also the young guys TD, Fields, Shawne and even Iman. We'll see how this develops over the next few years.

Thank You!!!!!! I was going to say the same thing! These fans love role players????

Despite the fact Moz now has a great career warming the pine in Denver behind that soon to be HOF Center Nene, and that Wilson might be the greatest double-double king in the history of China, I really miss that incredible 12pts a game that the Rooster could be giving us at SF that would lead us all to our first taste of a chip in nearly 12 years. Yes indeedy. And who could forget that PG we had who was going to replace Clyde as the greatest Knick PG ever...yeah...what was his name again? Right.....Felton.

...and let's not forget the possibility of those now invisible draft picks!

Imagine if we only had DLee back too! Title contention for the next 10 years, Baby!

Let the big mylar POSSIBLE PLAYOFF POTENTIAL balloon go already.

analysts paid real money for their opinion say he's the most gifted offensive player in the league. I believe them. The guy has the whole package (unlike a Durant).

3ball, mid-range game, post up, better than average re bounder (possibly will be the best re bounder on the team. And I believe he will (as he said) give a priority to defense. I expect we will see him turn it up a notch.

When you have leverage you use it. Where was Carmelo going to be traded? Where the Nets going to make a move for him? If they did they were going to gut half there team and be a medicore team going forward. So you play your hand and hold firm and don't give up draft picks and additional pieces. Carmelo didn't really impress when he was here. He hit a couple of game winner and had an one amazing playoff game. Outside of that he stopped all ball movement and showed he gives effort when he wants to. The guy could easily grab 10rbs and dish out 6assists a night if he concenrated more on getting people invovled and doing the little things to win. He isn't conditioned the way a superster should be. If youre giving one guys 20MM he better be a force on both ends.

If this season is cancelled we gave away a couple of players for no reason. All valid concerns.

really, considering the lack of training camp or practice time, having to learn and get used to all new players yet he averaged something like 30pts a game. Led is in rebounding in many of those games...singlehandedly kept us in those games against Boston despite the sweep (we were still in those games till the end).

You must date only supermodels and eat gray nasty stuff.

Is Melo a new superstar, pretentious or a narcissist

Melo is "Jennifer Aniston or Ashton Kuctcher" Both good looking, big stars who do well at the box office. They produce. But they are not Oscar caliber actors.

Melo produces, but is he a "winner"? In college yes. IN the NBA, not proven.

Regarding the 4 starters we gave up for melo, I think you should get a guy who makes others better.

No, Felton is not Clyde, but the kid was perhaps the best we have had in nearly 20 years. Gallo? God forbid we keep a rising talent. Moz, barley scratched the surface with him. Wilson, just a good solid piece.

BIllups was cap fodder and I hope he can really give us one more year.

What does the sum equal? A guy who starts allstar games because he gets votes but can't make an all pro seclection.

Always good to debate a guy that has no idea what he is talking about. He is a volume scorer that plays one on one basketball learning an offense has no bearing on whether he gets his points or not. He's not the point guard, let's not act like the Knicks run a complicated offense.

Carmelo single handedly kept us in those playoff games, if you mean Game 2?

Game 1 (5-18) he missed 10/11 shots in the second half including the game winner not to mention took the ball out of Amare's hands the guy that carried the team the entire game. Game 3 he shot 4-16 with 5 turnovers. He played well in game 4, but to say he carried the team when he didn't show up for 2/4 playoff games is a joke.

Even Billups had to admit that he hadn't figured out the offense. Most guys that come in thinking it's just run and gun soon learn that it's much harder than it looks. Took Felton a LONG time to figure out what to do. Guys like Nash only make it LOOK easy.

I think Melo could've played better, but at the same time I don't think the team was really ready to face a championship level defense like the Celtic's can play. Once we started losing key players it only made it harder. That's not what is most important. The most important factor isn't how we looked last year in the playoffs, but how this team will look going forward with more time together. Like I said, you can't base everything off that small sample size with the guys just thrown together basically playing 2 different styles!

That's a predictable consequence of going ten years without winning even one playoff game.

it's been the case for years and years. We either vastly overvalue (Gallo) or we devalue or, even worse we get the revisionist history.

Melo torches LeBron and just about everyone else he plays. The guy is a winner, lacking only the Big Ring, having won in college and in international competition.

He shot poor cause of the elbow injury but offensively no one can hold a candle to him. Not Durant and not LBJ cause they lack his full arsenal.

His defense IS better than advertised. Anyone who has watched him during his post seasons in Denver.

What I am reading here is typical.

Not having a decent team in years.....We knew what Walsh was doing......What absolutely had to be done. Now guys act like the rug was pulled out from under them.

Half the people devaluing him were saying We don't want Bron we want Melo

Part of the reason I started this thread is because there is an awful lot of 'me' in Melo. I was pissed that the day after negotiations ended between players and owners that he tweeted 'epic' and linked to his commercial. Maybe its just me but there seems to be a bit of a disconnect there. Also, Melo is in NY because he forced his way out of Denver. He didn't do the Knicks any favors. He was smart to move before the new cba but he didn't make his move based on loyalty to the Knicks or Nuggets, it was about Melo. The Knicks gave up too much in my opinion in the trade so that just adds to my frustration with the situation. Hopefully the lockout can be resolved soon so that Melo doesn't blow up into this lockouts version of Shawm Kemp.

It was a great move for "Melo" and building the "Melo" brand. Stat seems to be having the time of his life in the garment district.

Knicks are willing to bring on another "star". "Stars" are good for buisiness. Snooki packs in clubs, Paris Hilton can sell all kinds of crap, and bubble butt Kardashian just moves about in public that is happy to put money in their pockets in trade for some form of entertainment.

"Melo" launched a shoe to screaming fans, explosions, helicopters, holograms, loud music and hot women. It's worship at some level.

The garden will be a buzz. The team should be .500 and make the playoffs.

There is no basis for me to say it works or not. Our guys were all banged up by the time the trade hit and it all came a part against boston.

We had a unit of players out there who were doing well and playing as a unit. It was fun to watch. How far it could have gone, or what pieces went in a trade for Deron is all behind us now.

WE have "Melo", we have a 35 year old pt guard in his last contract year, we have "Shump" whose legend grows daily by some and we don't have a Center. Lando is a year better and I hope we don't have to trade him either.

Melo is hyped in my opinion and the rest of the team I can't begin to predict on.

Ain't go no season yet.

The team should be .500??? You don't have a "basis" to say if this works or not? How about your general knowledge of the game of BB? You think a team with STAT and Melo on it isn't going to be successful? Just the 2 of them alone will avg half the teams points. Very rare that a team with 2 All Stars in their primes won't be successful. IMO Knick fans should be ecstatic about the team at this point.

You are entitled to sound somewhat disappointed in the team, but I personally don't understand how a Knick fan can't be happy with what the team makeup is at this point.

STAT is one of the best PF's in the NBA. Who's better in the East?
Melo is one of the bet SF's in the NBA. I'd count only Lebron as better in the East.

Billups is still a top player. His production is still very high. Despite being 35!

From Dime Magazine:

Maybe it was just us, but watching Carmelo Anthony play in some of these summer league games just hasn’t looked right. He’s looked out of shape, a little soft and without any explosion. In a way, the news that he had double surgeries in May on his elbow and knee actually works out well. At least now we know why he looked the way he did. The elbow surgery was relatively minor, while the knee procedure was only an arthroscopic surgery used to clear out some irritation. It’s nothing that should affect him long-term or even next year. Then again, Carmelo also told Newsday’s Alan Hahn that if training camp started on time, he’d come in lighter than he’s ever been as a Knick at 230 pounds so maybe our eyes are deceiving us
