Probably fine him (Sprewell rule?) but I don't think you can void a contract based on an injury. Probably would need some special clause or something for that. What if he broke it playing in the Olympics or summer league?

Yes, the contract can be void. Perhaps they can negotiate if the injury is not permanent and the player is expected back in full health or ignore it if they want.

If the play international ball (Not for pay but for country or olympics) the player or country buys insurance to protect the contract. Paying for pay outside of NBA and getting hurt is at the players risk. Some free agent players won't even train now in fear of getting hurt. They can't buy insurance on a contract that does not exist.

you can void a contract as a result of injury. I know that cause I remember the whole Jay Williams incident. Chicago showed class by not voiding his contract when they had the option. I don't know if international play allows the same freedom.

and he broke it this week playing for the his French National team.

the fact that you can't even have an unrelated thread without some tool here bringing him up make me think that rational minds are few and far between. Bunch of emotionally weak, angst riddled people. I mean, how many times can you argue the same shyt

I think many don't realize that contracts are not simply guaranteed; they're guaranteed as long as you meet a number of conditions. That's the same thing I have in my profession and I think it would be a more just society if all contracts were done that way (rather than being at will). Basically: "You uphold your end of the deal, and we won't fire you." (Any employer can decide not to renew your contract when it ends but they can't fire you unless you violate your end of the contractual agreement.)

A team can grant permission for a player to play internationally. They usually buy some insurance on the contract. Knicks did not want Stat to play after he signed in the summer of 2010. A player can still go play and secure insurance in the event he gets hurt. Team contract is void and the insurance company pays the player.

Most players have a clause in their contracts about excess risk. Driving a bike is one of them. Bulls were good sports about it as they knew he's be out longer than his contract. If he came back they'd be able to keep his rights. Maybe they asked him to give the bulls first right to resign as a gentlemans agreement for paying him. Kellen Willslow JR. also busted his leg. Monta Ellis with a Freakin Moped had some lose of wages. Teams don't have to void but can "Suspend" while a player rehabs.
