that is true, there is a chance he can be a bust. I think it would require a career ending injury.
This guy has all the physical tools, work ethic like KG, killer instinct, confidence, and humbleness/respect for his peers to bring him to next level.
It's amazing how he fell to us and the way he had been working on his game since the draft till today.
I really think the unhappy tweets that Carmelo made after the Knicks drafted Shumpert about going to bed goodnite. Melo was fully about endorsing Selby and felt he could influence the Knicks decisions on the draft and it caused Iman to increased his workload and determination to improve his game. It hurt him mentally because he really wanted to come here and felt his own skills would mesh with what the Knicks were doing. It takes a special quality of mental toughness and confidence to be able to take the media of New York and I believe this kid has it. It was good, Amare embraced and welcome Iman to the Knicks. He knows what his strengths are and how he has to work on his weaknesses and have been doing so.
As of right now, a Shumpert + filler (probably Billups) + Fields might not seem worthy for Cp3. But if he comes out strong like Westbrook did his 2nd year, it could all change. Cp3 has been teaming up with Amare and Melo on all the charity games. I really think they want to all play together and finish the big 3 of New York. I really don't want to give up on this kid if he shows he has the ability to becoming a star even for a proven all star PG like Cp3, if healthy. I really wonder what would Amare and Melo think after playing with this kid and how he can change the face of this franchise. I loved how he not only mentioned how he could mesh in with Amare, Melo, Billlups, but with TD too. I get the feeling he knows the combination of TD and him can put a lot of pressure in the league with defense combined together. His ability to playing PG will take a lot of pressure of TD, allowing TD to focus on playing D and hitting wide open 3's. I already see he has the dribble and first step to blow pass his defender. And NO pure PG in the league has the size and ability to guard this kid and he knows it. I can probably only see Westbrook with the ability to guard him, and possibly Rhondo with the rest of the Celtics defense.
Still I know I am giving a lot of credit to this kid and he has yet to step in the court verse NBA competition yet. We still have to see how he plays, still needs time to develop, and play with the team to create chemistry. But this kid's ceiling is high and I am very happy he continues to develop. A trade for Cp3 would make us better but we wouldn't have a single player with the ability to guard Dwade or Lebron. D Rose, john Wall, Westbrook + Durant, Cp3, Deron, Terry, Kobe, Granger, Gay, AI, Monta Ellis + Curry. There are so many players in the league that at least have at least one player and some have 2 + more incredible offensive players togther. I believe this kid can be a true lockdown defender and make other teams work on both ends. Don't get me wrong, I dont expect him to lock Dwade or Lebron down right away, but I already think he can guard them better than anyone on our roster.
I think we should look to add more long, lanky type defenders, and have a good rotation of players to guard the cream of the crop. Model our team with the ability to defend Miami because they will be contenders for many years to come. I would love a player like Ariza back, however, even someone that can be cheap like Sefolosha from the Thunder or if we want to take risk on a player like Brandon Wright. I am not saying these guys will lock Lebron or Wade down, but having those type of players on our bench, is an assset, they have the length and size to guard them. We have to find our own Marion/Butler type players without using much of the cap and its very doable....
