For next year I got this opening day
PG-Billups
SG-Fields
SF-Anthony
PF-Amare
C-Turiaf

I have a feeling we will have a heavy dose of Billups, Fields, Williams(assuming he resigns), Anthony and Amare. Sounds a lot like last year.

I think Turiaf is going to get supplanted by either Jerome Jordan or Jorts.

Thats my hope. I haven't seen Jordan so no idea how much he has improved. I've only seen Jorts play twice in college and think he is an NBA player but think he has some developing to do before he gets a starting job. I'm hoping they both end up better then Turiaf but I have this sneaking suspicion neither will be ready come opening day. If there is one.

I am looking at current free agents to scan for a possible cheap 1 year center sign. Hilton Armstrong and Jason Collins are both UFA from Atlanta. Joel Pryzbilla is also a UFA out of Charlotte. Josh McRoberts is a UFA from Indiana. Fesenko from Utah is also a UFA. Yi Jianlian is a UFA from Washington.

Nene is a UFA but we don't have any money for that. Same with Tyson Chandler.

I would love to sign either Yi or Fesenko for 1 year and let them battle for the 5 spot.

Hilton signed with an overseas team. Yi is a SF in a C's body.

Aaron Gray may help.

How about Fesenko? I think he can do some damage here.

I like McRoberts, Yi, Pryz, and Fesenko from your list. Yi is listed as a restricted free agent on the hoopsworld list that I saw. If Pryz is healthy and other teams are scared off by his recent injuries he could be a great signing. I wouldn't be surprised if Washington doesn't resign Yi. I think he is due for a breakout season.

Martin, you just described MDA's prototypical center in Yi.

Please! No Yi! Pryzbilla would be a good pick up for us - good size, a defensive presence.

Joel Przybilla is an UFA?

He would be great playing 10-15 mins a night. Rebounds & Blocks!

I think we should do center by committee next season. Keep them fresh so they can rebound and defend.

Had enough Melo?

See Fields, 2010-2011.

At this time. Last year was nice as playoffs were the expected now there is a whole level of different expectation, why go to battle with a rookie all over again when last year's rookie has a year under his belt. Makes no sense to revert back when going forward yields better results. Now if Shumpert blows everyone out of the water with his play then maybe he deserves to start.

Great. So your point is that if Shumpert is better than Fields, Shumpert should start, otherwise Fields should start.

Did I sum it up right?

No one should be too quick to dismiss Fields. If Shumpert proves to be a stud, great, it only strengthens our bench with Fields as 6th man. Otherwise keep in mind that Fields will be vastly improved, particularly as a shooter and will be more prepared for the second half of the season especially. Fields is already an underrated shooter. I'm not sure why people think we need a better shooter at the SG position. He can knock down from anywhere and was 50% from the field and 39% from the 3. He could come in and be more consistent of course, but he has the potential to be a top 3-point shooter in the league down the road. I think he has a chance to come in and increase his averages, learn how to play alongside Melo, and be the future at the SG position.

Fields is a solid shooter and he moves well without the ball. However, he is not an explosive slasher and is only a so-so defender. Shumpert is an elite defender and we need that in this lineup more than anything else. You add Shumpert (assuming he can hit an open shot) and a solid defensive center to this lineup, and if MDA would put more work in scouting and coaching defense (they need to hire a defensive assistant), I think you will see this team move into the top 12-15 in defense, which is where we have to get if we are going to truly contend.
