Reason # 157 why I don't play hoops......>The ankle sprain! I hated those! Takes weeks and then one little roll and your set back a few days again! #158 is the finger jams!

Feel better!

Public tennis courts are in so many parts and schools now it is almost as easy as playing basketball.

Public Golf course still has many costs associated with it not found in Tennis.

So Lowrey, since you bought it up, can you really tell me Golf is a sport or a game? Golf does require great skill and concentration.

Basketball does also, but can you sling beers, eat corn dogs and smoke cigars while playing basketball without your game degrading?

If you wore a heart monitor to measure your caloric burn and heart rate would you be in anyway comparing to a tennis match? Even doubles if done properly requires much movement off the ball to be in position. I never understood doubles until I started playing in a league and its like playing defense in basketball, gotta move your feet and be in position quickly.

Golf, only if your walking are you getting any benefit. Walking is not part of the game btw, you can take your dog for a walk. Walk to the store. Walking is walking (its good for you!) but Golf walking is not part of the game.

Play an two hours of competitive tennis and see how you feel.

Did you play golf in India?

@Oh man you made some assumptions there. I couldn't play tennis in India because of affordability, I didn't say that's an issue here. The point is it's very hard to start playing tennis when you are 37 year old (that's why I chose golf instead). I was actually being facetious about not liking tennis, I have nothing against tennis, watch it religiously. If you go by ESPN's standards even poker is a sport. If you go by North Carolina standards it ain't a sport unless you can get really really hurt playing it or can really really hurt others. So only football, hockey and Nascar qalify as sports down there. (But you know this already!).

I used to paly a lot of doubles in ping-pong and that requires so much movement and coordination when you play it at a fst comeptitive level that I can appreciate what it would take for Tennis. I was just poking fun at tennis.

I don't count calories, don't have to. I do a physical a year and control my diet, I don't take any meds for anything. And I do enjoy playing golf with my budies or did back in NC. Now that I am in Ohio, I don't have the same set of friends etc. And yes Tennis is a lot cheaper than golf here. But I don't play either often enough for it to matter.

@ Martin - No I don't watch much TV except for sports, it's cool what your sister does. I wish I could visit my family and spend a couple months a year over there. So I am bit jealous.

@ jrodmc - I have no comeback for what you posted, except to say this: If you ever develop a sense of humor, come talk to me

Glad you don't need any meds, and in good shape.

The crap starts in your 40's. I understand the work thing and time thing. Picked up Tennis only 5 years ago and had some detours along the way. Thats the good thing about it, there are always new players and you can get better and better over time.

We all have our own pattern. I got a buddy who from England who built his own cricket field in NC! Thats one way to get a game up! He got Brits, Pakistani's and Indian's playing with him. They play teams from Charlotte and Raleigh.

Nascar? Thats maybe a sport for the guys driving! Stay well, thats the name of the game!

Ahhhhh! Tore my OTHER calf muscle!!!
