Athletic player vs fundamental player.

Fundamentals wins. Dirk has Bling.

Dirk is the best power forward not named Larry Bird.

Did what malone could not do.

But lets be real, Kidd was very smart, Jet awsome, and Chandler athletic.

Be suprised if Amare is as good or better in 4 years when Dirks age. Dirk has gotten better!

Fundamentals!

Dirk is five years older and and has four more years of NBA experience. Amar'e is just entering what should b ehis prime, Dirk is in the process of (At least historically) of exiting his prime. Not really a fair comparison yet. While I do think history will remember Dirk better than Amar'e, I do think this is one of those negative Knick fan deals and think the point is getting missed: we have a comparable player to Dirk Nowitzki.

We have a comparable (but inferior) player to Dirk. We also don't have any point guard near the caliber of Kidd or Barea. And we don't have any Center near Tyson Chandler. We are a long way from contending. Problem is, we don't have a lot of draft picks or cap space. We're setup to sell tickets and compete for a while... but I think the Knicks will need a ground up rebuild around a bonafide superstar on a rookie contract to really get a championship.

Dirk was drafted.

Rose is not the answer.

Dirk has had the good fortune of being coached by a real basketball mind.

I pray Amare has the same fortune.

this is the best assessment you can make. amare was much better than all of us anticipated and can carry a team to the playoffs but dirk carried a team that would be a lottery team without him to the finals and hopefully a championship. dirk is the top 50 player of all time. amare has a few years to get there yet, tho.

Lottery team, please get real. Dallas is a stacked team. Marion, Kidd and Terry not to mention 2-3 legit 7' centers, a very good back up pg, everyone forgets sitting on the bench injured Butler, Stevenson who is a good player. Even without Dirk they make the playoffs. Do they win a championship most likely no.

Lottery team in the west sounds reasonable. Those guys are all nice role players at this stage in their careers. Teams with nothing but good role players in the west either don't make the playoffs or sneak in and get swept. The Grizzlies had Westbrook and Durant (and Gay for part of the season) and finished ten games above .500 but only sneaked into the 8th seed. There's no way this Dallas team without Dirk would have pushed Memphis to 9th place.
