Great news to hear...I like the how H2O was delegated this assignment. More appropriate way of handling internal affairs. Let's hope news like this continues to surface

Great news. Now guys like Rautins can actually get playing time running MDA's system as opposed sitting on the bench and we can figure out if they guys can really play or not.

Hahn says they'll be keeping Jay Larranga as head coach (also the coach of the Irish National Team). Anyone seen him at all, or if he tries to run things uptempo?

And very glad to read the news. Not sure exactly how much more grooming Allan will get out GMing a D-League team vs. assisting with the NBA, but definitely a smart/positive move any way you spin it.

Is Jay Larranaga the son of Jim Larranaga (George Mason)?

Great move. I hope MSG televises some of their games.

Excellent thought. Now we know the underlying WHY the Knicks are getting their own D-League team. Televising games brings in more revenue.

Does anyone know if an nba franchise owns a d-league team if they can have more than two players on the roster? Also, does this effect the fee teams have to pay to bring up d-league players?

D-league, where we field a team that plays no "D"!

A minor league system allows you to develop your own prospects with a staff that you hire and one that follows your organizational philosophy. Most players drafted are good enough to play in the NBA right away, but with the international pool etc. it makes sense to have a more worthwhile D league. Your D-League players shouldn't have to count against your roster however, and you should be able to retain the rights to a handful of players.

They should also loosen the restrictions on who you can send down and how many times they can be sent down.

NCAA basketball won't suffer. There will always be new recruits. Its actually better this way for the fact that more and more kids will be able to get scholarships. NBA needs to be treated as a career and players need to be able to develop themselves as they would for any other career.

You shouldn't have to develop young players much when they reach the NBA level. That should be done through the D-leagues.

completely agree, on both accounts. Now the league needs to get their heads out of their collective asses and do what is necessary to ensure there is a true two-way minor league system. Seems a bit ridiculous that id you send a player down he counts against the roster

NCAA Basketball = NBA Minor League System

A 2 way Minor League system would just kill NCAA basketball.

NCAA Basketball is already dead with the one and done rule. A two-way minor league system is better for both the NBA and the prospects, so I'm all for this.

no it isn't, it's just a showcase before you get drafted.

on a related note, i think fran frachilla during the draft combine was calling ncaa hoops like aa baseball, and the euro league as aaa, in terms of quality level.

which leads to the problem the nba has with players going from ncaa ball to the nba. that's a pretty big leap for more than a few players.
