Tyson Chandler and a good defensive supporting cast aren't able to stop Lebron/Wade
Joakim Noah + Luol Deng--same story
Kevin Garnett and his hall-of-fame supporting cast--same story

And we are miles behind these three teams defensively.

Its been Dirk's lack of help offensively that's hurt the Mavs more than anything.

That's not just some random occurrence, though. The Heat are an outstanding defensive team.

Mavs have missed their share of open looks, especially Barrea. The Heat's defense is a factor but like I said, these games have come down to the few last seconds, so both sides are playing their share of D.

The Heat have shown exceptional defense in their run. An offense with say Melo and Amare demands the attention of multiple defenders. A guard who can knock sown the open shot can thrive in this offense. Chalmers has made Dallas pay for going under. The least you expect.

You look to add Deron Williams over Chris Paul. You draft a gritty defensive big man and you fill in from there. Douglas, Fields, Williams is a nice core of good role players. Jerome Jordan's development is big.

Historically Carmelo has always been a handful from Lebron. He isn't a great defender but he's also a player that isn't going to be locked down by great defense.

Amare is the the second best foward power forward in the league behind Dirk and can take over games at will. Bosh can do no such thing.

If our role players improve and Deron Williams decides it's time for America to know who he is he is going to come to New York.

I agree. I think what makes or breaks us is the PG position. Right now, our biggest problem on the Heat would be Dwade. I agree, Melo can hold his own with Bron. Amar'e can match up with Bosh. Billups and Wade? No. Paul and Wade? No. Deron would be a great fit. And we look to add from there. With Fields, Williams,a strong big, and hopefully maybe Josh Selby or Brooks..I think we would be able to hold our own.

You are wrong. Hey I would love nothing more than to beat the heat. I am a Knicks die hard fan but it is what it is. The heat have 2 Superstars that are better than ours so we will need a 3rd star better than theirs plus some great fillers who can defend. Now if you think that I am wrong show me!! And stop talking about my threads. I see that I get plenty of comments. Are you jealous??

not jealous at all buddy. was just asking how many of these threads have you made? ...i think at least 3.

Had enough Melo?

The thing is that we aren't the sad sack Knicks anymore. Collectively as fans we have to come out of that negative view of the team and accept that this remade team is pretty good. It's a playoff team with a chance to be more if the right moves are made this summer and next. It's entirely possible to build a team in NY that can beat the Heat. We already matchup well against them even without the needed improvements. Depending on how well things go this summer who knows what the team will be like next year.

Both teams got really tired at games end. Dallas had too many chances to put it away and could not hit it. Miami's offensive execution was really poor at the end. Bosh getting fouled was very fortunate to keep them in the game. Fatigue was all over the place.

Chandler is making a big difference on the boards and the pick and roll. Dirk was sick and still came up big.

Papa, THis is a good series.

Its a good team vs. a not so good team with concentrated super talent. Mavs really miss caron butler!

Nope. Carmelo and Amare won't be as good as Dirk and any other NBA starter either.

if you have two of the top 15 players in the league on your roster, you will always have a chance.

Melo and Amare have to play hard on both ends of the court for a full season before making the top 15 club. Amare might be in the club now but Carmelo has to also shoot more efficiently and pass better.

Pretty sure it was me agreeing with you before the Melo trade even occurred.

IMO STAT and Melo are top players in this league. They may not be perfect but they are top players. They will be a potent duo next year and if we make some good additions this summer there's no reason that this team can compete head to head with the best in the league. The better the team around these guys is, the easier it will be for them to do more than just score. I think that being in the East with other tough defensive teams will have a positive impact on them. I liked what I saw from Melo as he stepped up his defense.

Well, Dallas is showing that it only takes one superstar and a great supporting cast to beat Miami. Even if Dallas goes on to lose, the Championship is there for the taking.

I like our chances to beat Miami. No matter the talent one assembles, you still need chemistry. Yeah, Miami will be better next year, but we will be MUCH better next year and seem to have their number (e.g. - Melo does well against them). I'm mostly concerned about Amare after his second half downturn as well as playoff injury. Clearly our big two need some help to stay fresh...

Here are the players I'd rather have. There's 19.
Dirk, Tyson Chandler
Kobe, Gasol, Bynum
Westbrook, Durant
Marc Gasol
Deron Williams
Garnett, Rondo
Steve Nash
Josh Smith
Wade, LBJ
Chris Paul
Dwight Howard
Derrick Rose
Stephen Curry

Rose is not the answer.
