Star combos usually don't happen via free agency because stars just go where the money is and the cap prevents multiple stars from joining a team with a strong foundation. It's not because the path wouldn't work. The fact that nearly all championships are won by teams with multiple stars makes it hard to see why it wouldn't work. I don't get your point anyway. Is it that Dwight's better off signing an extension with Orlando if he wants a ring than teaming up with stars? If so, that's laughable.

I think it's good that the current salary structure makes it difficult for stars to collude and join together. A good league is a balanced league with many good teams. A league that makes it easy to concentrate a stars into a few teams is not healthy.

The league as is it is today rewards teams that build through the draft primarily and home growing talent (even Miami would not have gotten Lebron if it wasn't able to draft Wade first). To me, this is the best way to form emotional bonds to a team - watching players you draft grow and develop.

OKC is a perfect model (the owner moving the team from Seattle with the leagues assistance notwithstanding)

Rose is not the answer.

Dwight had Rashard Lewis, a max contract player who failed to live up to his contract in Orlando.

What he has is an organization that is trying but he needs to stop pressing the issue.

He could team up with Paul and if Paul's knee buckles that dream is done.

Many things hinge on making a championship run. Often its a bit of luck.

This year collusion stands in Dallas' way.

Injury plays a big part. Haslem is an important part of Miami and its the guy that always takes a pay cut to stay in town.

He could get his second ring. If Miami wins we could at least be happy for him in that respect.

I agree with everything else you said but my argument was that Dwight Howard should get in on the colluding! He shouldn't collude with just one star, though. Then there is a huge injury risk. He's gotta team up with Paul (or Williams) and join a third star. That's why I suggested joining Blake Griffin in LA. This plan works only if the most important thing at the end of the day to him is how many rings he wins.

.........and there in lies the question. What is the price for a championship?

I'll give Lebron credit. He was willing to share the stage and take a pay cut. Same for the other two.

Not Melo or Amare. Orlando made mistakes with contracts because of trying to placate Howards reasons for leaving. Bottom line is there are no guarantees for Dwight unless he takes a big risk or pay cut.

Agreed. Most people hate Lebron for what he did but I give him credit for the pay cut and putting winning first. I think at the end of his career, he wants to be considered the best player ever. And he knows that no matter how well he plays individually, having only a few finals appearances in Cleveland, and likely at most 1 ring, won't cut it. Luck has to go his way, no doubt. But if it does go his way, the sky is the limit. He has the possibility of earning MANY rings and maybe having him and Wade be considered the best duo ever. That's a huge maybe but it's something exciting for him and Wade to strive for.

As far as LeBron goes, I didn't have a problem with anything he did. He told everybody he wanted to win, and left a poorly managed Cleveland Cavaliers franchise with a d-league roster to join Miami and get a better supporting cast.

I think Dwight loves Orlando personally but he has to know that they don't have the resources to significantly improve the team while he's there.
