We picked up his option because...

a) We need a PG for our team (TD is a disaster at the 1)
b) We can use his expiring deal in any potential trades to upgrade this season.

Seems like a no-brainer to me.

no, just an MRI

He is healing slowly. An 82 game season is going to result in injuries. The guy is breaking down period.

For a .500 team that isn't competing for a title next year, we had no good reason to pick up Billup's contract.

you can't even think of 1 good reason?

I think the Billups pickup was a big swing and a miss. Strike 1. Next season will tell us if this works, if he falters then strike 2. If we can't get anything for him with his big contract then that will be strike 3.

He was the cap fodder for the Melo deal. If you want melo, you gotta buy into this.

Next season will tell us if this works, if he falters then strike 2.

Look at his game count. Look at the records on his teams. This is a real "Captain Obvious" kind of statement.

If we can't get anything for him with his big contract then that will be strike 3.

He expires at the seasons end. So your talking about the last 30 games after the trade deadline.

What can you get for him anyway? He would be a fill in player for contender team that needs help or replace a player due to injury.

guess the real question is were you for or against the Melo deal?

Everybody here knows I am a big Gallo fan. Bird Lite baby. I hated the deal.

Ok, but its done. The logical step was to pick up Billups.

Yeah I don't get the pessimism. He's an expiring deal. That has value going into the trade deadline. No matter what happens with his knee a 14 mil cap relief is pretty big. We all know what's at stake this coming year... CP3, Deron and Howard!!! So long as those guys are in play we need to at least make an attempt to be involved. It may be a long shot, but that's the game. Then either way we have some flexibility to get something else done.

We need a PG next year. Did you see how bad we looked without Billups?

So we trade him at the deadline next year and have another built in excuse if we dont finish strong. Trade the guy before the season so the guys that are left can gel as much as possible before the post season.

So, by your logic, we are bad without Billups, so let's trade him now? Just so that we don't have an excuse to not finish strong?

By my logic we are bad without Billups so lets trade him for a replacement that has time to gel with the team.

We need consistency this year if we want to make noise in the playoffs.

or we could just acquire an adequate backup PG, limit chauncey's minutes, and get maximum effectiveness out of him. not many guys with finals MVP on their resume floating around. he's a good veteran presence, just need to make sure he doesn't get ridden into the ground b/c of a lack of backup. he should be limited to 30 mpg and gets the day off on back-to-backs.

I think we all know that CB isn't the permanent answer at PG, no matter what his health situation is. We can expect that Donnie is gonna look for other solutions at PG. If you're talking about CP3 or Deron then it's all worth it, regardless if we're not 100% in terms of chemistry next postseason or not. The issue this year wasn't so much that we had some excuse in the playoffs due to a lack of chemistry! It had more to do with CB NOT PLAYING AT ALL the last 3 games!!! He made a difference when he was in there, hobbled an everything. Just imagine a healthy CP3 or Deron, even with only a short amount of time with the team. Now it's not likely to be one of those guys, but even if it's someone else, the idea is still the same. We need to upgrade the position for the future. CB is a good trade chip to help get that done. His value in a trade is in his contract not his knee.

Why do people think we are trading Billups? Where are you getting this from? ...Nowhere.

AnubisADL is right. This slow healing should be concerning! If this happens mid season we are up sh!ts creek.

We need a backup PG that can play starters mins if needed. 14 million for Billups next season was a bad move...but I like Billups...and I guess he needs to feed his kids...

Had enough Melo?

People are talking trading Billups because that's the only way another star is getting here considering the labor negotiations and the expected salary roll-back.

As far as the move goes, it was the only move. New York could have let Billups go, but it would have only created about 8 million in cap space and left New York without a starting point guard and center.

anytime you can trade Mr. Big Shot for 50 cents on the dollar with no obvious replacement available, you have to do it

There are two circumstances where they should do it.

A. Salary matching to get Chris Paul.
B. Salary matching to get Dwight Howard.

Billups is going to be 35 at the start of next season. Dude gets dusted by the young PGs in the league.
