I don't really care about the contract.
Just like when Allan Houston came here
in '96, Amare is a Knick for life in my eyes.

As you can see by the majority of replies, most posters in here would trade their own infants, zygotes, hoons, girlfriends, wives and mothers for whatever's winning in the last and next 5 minutes.
This thread should be included in the stupid frontrunners forum, along with the "WE NEED CRAWFORD BACK" and "ZBO's BETTER THAN TWO STATS" posts.
STAT carried a bunch of rooks and 2 1/2 tier players to the playoffs, and survived getting Melo'd mid-year. One can see that a fan base slowly begins to reflect the constant stream of mung media it ingests. I'm glad I don't watch TV or listen to the radio or read the faggoty anti-NY rags that infuse this area.

I'd do Amar'e for Howard in a hearbeat. You're talking about a true center who is going to go down in history as a top 5 rebounder and shotblocker. And his offensive game has vastly improved.

But of course a move like this would have to remove Mike D'antoni as head coach, as no 3 time defensive player of the year should have to put up with his offensive gimmicks.

Another "yes". Judging by the results, this one's kind of a no-brainer.

To me, the question is would you throw in something else of value -- say Landry or TD. I'd still say "yes", assuming, of course, that Dwight would sign an extension. Howard is a beast. Top defensive player in the game at most important defensive position, excellent rebounder, and a very good, if limited, offensive player. You cannot have Howard on your team and be below average on defense -- he's that good.

Why don't you reword the poll to say "would you do a lopsided trade in favor of your team?"

What a lame poll

Rose is not the answer.

Not really.

Amare helps spread the floor with his jump shot. Without him Melo would have to deal with more of the scoring load.

Also without his athleticism Dwight Howard would be pretty terrible. So you need to factor that in.

Amare with no hops can still shoot jumpers. Dwight Howard with no hops is useless.

If I were to build a team from scratch, the first guy I bring on board would be either Dwight or LeBron (despite the douche factor)...

It would be cold blooded to trade STAT after he revived this team, so I'm thankful we don't have to put ourselves in this dilemma, but I would have a hard time turning down Superman.

Hypotheticals aside, I'm pumped to see what this Amar'e/Melo led team can do after a full training camp and (hopefully) some holes at PG and C are filled.

STAT carried a bunch of rooks and 2 1/2 tier players to the playoffs,

What's your argument? All you've done is attack the people picking Dwight. The one argument you made is that Amare has taken minimal talent to the playoffs but Dwight has carried comparable talent much farther. What does Amare do better than Dwight? On offense, he'll give you 2 more PPG (although on a lower shooting percentage). I'll grant that he has a tiny edge on offense. But Dwight has a HUGE edge on defense.

My loyalty is to the franchise, not to Amar'e. Anyone sitting here trying to act like a better fan because they wont trade Amar'e for Howard is a joke. Howard is the better player all-around and is a bigger need on this team than Amar'e. Howard would give us a better chance to win a championship than Amar'e. So as a fan of this FRANCHISE I would make this trade immediately. Because I actually want to win a championship in my lifetime.

It's also worth reading about the endowment effect: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Endowment_effect

Umm...IIRC we were the only ones willing to guarantee this man a 5 year contract since it could only be insured 3 years. That changed? If not why would Orlando assume 40 million in possible liability to make this trade? This is so far out in left field it is not worth bringing up

Somebody explain to me when did DH develope a jump shot..his situation here will be no better then it was in orl..as long as mike is the coach...

You need a bonifde perimeter player like kobe or jordan to play with a bigman that can score beyond 5 ft..surrounding him around shooters obviously doesn't wwork

Howard has never played with a player the caliber of Carmelo Anthony in his career.

Carmelo is not really a bonifide perimeter player, which is part of the reason him and stat didn't just click like clock.. Im not saying it can't work, but it's going to take a very good pg to put it together.

I don't even think there's any young PG that can handle playing with 2 super stars like amare and melo, it's tough trying to balance ball distribution to 2 super stars, and still be aggresive.

I love Amar'e, but I honestly think Melo and Howard works better than Melo and Stat because Howard is a more defensive minded player that thrives on rebounding, shot blocking, and is willing to do the dirty work in the paint to help his team. Amar'e is strictly an offensive talent that has yet to make a commitment to rebounding for a player with his size and athleticism. Melo and Dhow is a serious 1-2 punch with offense and defense.

I think the Knick with the longest tenure on the team is Toney Douglas with two years. After the trade the Knicks were essentially a new team so I don't have a lot of loyalty to anyone on the roster. If the Knicks can get Howard for Amare I think they should do it. I think you have to consider that deal even if it includes Arenas's contract.
