If that is the case, we may not only have a bit of a selection (minus RFA's), but have players who want to come here as it will be a great shot at a ring. That hurts us as far as Miami is concerned though.

I don't think there can be a hard cap for a couple of reasons.

1) You would have to change the way salaries count against the cap. Cutting players would have to have some kind of penalty like in the NFL since you would be forcing teams to do so every off season.

2) Many teams in the NBA have 3-4 players making 75-100% of the current cap. So if there were to be a hard cap it would have to be at the lowest 65-70 million dollars to account for the the teams with stars in the league still needing to add 8 players to their rosters and rookie salaries.

3) I wanted to post another reason but I can't really think of another.

The players will hold out for the next 5-6 months if the NBA is serious about a hardcap. The players absolutely do not want a hardcap and will fight against that for a long-time. Eventually they would cave, but we won't see basketball until January if the NBA is serious about imposing a hardcap.

NBA could work towards a sequential hard cap as a target in a few years. Meaning, the soft cap gets harder over a time frame getting teams ready for it.

Personally I like the tax thing as the knicks could pay it. The yankees don't win all the time but in baseball you do have a set group of teams that spend and likely get it done. I'd like to see a small market team win in baseball.

Not sure why people thought Memphis would let him go. He has done nothing but improve since being in the league.

Not sure how the hard cap works in the NHL but it works in the NFL because the contracts are not guaranteed. No way the hard cap is imposedwhere the contracts are guaranteed. They may try to insert some sort of penalty provisions like loss of draft choices but no hard cap.

I like the NFL system. IT rewards the better players and opens up opportunities to replace the fallen with guys that might never get a chance if you have to hold players due to contracts.

Eddy not just ate food but he ate cap space and roster space.

So many players fall thru the cracks because they never get a chance.

Look how delicate Shawn Williams situation was. He got one more chance. Maybe if kNicks don't pick him up and he goes D league and hurts a finger he never gets close again?

Im also in agreement the owners need to make a suitable return on their capital they have put up at risk. Not Dolan mind you, but some owners like the Buss family has the Lakers as their primary asset. They have done a great job and made money.
