People forget the rule was put into place because it was being abused by the great Wilt Chamberlain.

This will give an unfair advantage to guys who play above the rim.

People also fail to consider how many shots get a chance to roll around the rim and fall in. Doubt Knicks fans would be excited to see Melo drive and have the like of Joel Anthony slap the ball off the rim.

You really want that guy to have the ability to offensively/defensively goaltend?

If Dinglebury boxed out then he would not have a clear path to the rim. Basics.

It works both ways, If a ball is boucing defense can pick it off the bounce or swat it away.

I don' think that much changes. How many bouceing balls are their?

It may seem like it doesn't happen often cause guys respect the rule..giving the opportunity...trust me..its gonna get ridiculous..for the knicks who have guys like amare n melo( who almost always rebounds his own misses) they will have a field day

The rule change would have a profound change in the way the game is currently played...It would change more things than helping the things it's being implemented to assist...

it makes me sick to my stomach seeing Eddy Curry just standing there, completely unaware that the play is even happening. ugh.

If they do this rule change would that also impact goal tending or swatting a ball on it's way down away from the basket?

I don't understand why things like this don't get handled with techmolagee(end/Kellerman).

You have cameras all over the rim, why not use sensors to define a zone above the rim you can't touch ball in??? Ref's only have to worry if an indicator of some sort was on when a player touches the ball.

a) removal of a timeout or two is very needed
b) in Europe this rule just works fine, means you can tip in or deflect a ball after it has touched the rim. With the athleticism in the NBA there might be some goaltending issues though.

times have changed. Wilt was like Ewing playing vs. high school kids. The only thing this would change is it would speed up the game. Instead of players on BOTH sides of the ball waiting for that ball to stop bouncing they get to react faster

I really don't see the problem with changing that stupid rule (I was born in Europe btw).

If you box out, nobody will be able to jump and dunk the ball. To the oppostie of common thinking, it won't reward athelticism but fundamentals, positionning and footwork.

All the Mcgees of the world would never get a rebound from a Oakley.

While they're at it, they should remove the even more stupid 3 second defensive violation (wtf I can't stay in the paint to protect my own basket???).

Suprised they never changed to the international "Box" to open the game up.

SInce they allowed zones the 3 second D rule makes sense otherwise you have guys just camping out under the basket so it was the compromise. Team defense and switching becomes a premium.

if theres a rule i want changed its the shot clock violation rule: you should reward the defense if they force a shot clock violation. So Whenever the opposing team shoots an airball, play does not stop unless the offensive team gets ball possession. This is an advantage to the defense because they get a running start to their offense.
