His best bet is to work very hard on his perimeter game and let everything else will fall in place, even lay ups are becoming a challenge for him

The first weeks after the trade EVERYONE was struggling. To single out Fields, one of the brightest spots of a chaotic season is not only unfair, it's downright un-American.

It's time to stand up and be counted!

"We want Land-Ree!"

Can't you just see Fields standing, head tilted up, in front of the unfurled American flag... or dressed as Uncle Sam...
I WANT PLAYING TIME!

Stinking Dantoni's probably a closet socialist pig.

jrodmc - it ain't that deep.

D'Antoni simply needs to trust Landry for the same things that don't show up in the boxscore that he trusts Jeffries for.

At least Landry can dunk in traffic.

"With Landry Fields, Mike D'Antoni explained that the rookie's instinct is to be forever cutting on the offensive end. Fields is always moving.

That probably seems good. But it's not.

"He needs to cut sometimes. But he's cutting all the time. You have to understand when it is to cut and when you don't," D'Antoni said yesterday. "Because otherwise you cut right into Amar'e [Stoudemire] and you mess Amar'e up." "

Yeah. Much better to stand around and make sure he's not messing up Stat's moves. Maybe he should just drift over and talk to Spike during half court sets. The F-ING guy WENT TO STANFORD!!!! He's not a F-ING MORON, D'ANTONI!!!

You can take the boy out of West Vajinya, but you can't take the West Vajinya out of the boy...

I don't hate on D'Antoni, but sometimes, he sounds like an idiot. And the results bear out that if something's going good (Fields), don't F with it.

How many NBA games have you won as head coach? I agree, MDA shouldn't rein in the youngin's enthusiastic motion too severely, but his point about not clogging the lane on an interior pass to Stat is clearly both logical and based on sound principles. He said "cut when it's the right time, don't when it's not". Why do you have a problem with that statement?

Sheesh, some folks just have a need to be a h8ter.

I think the main reason Fields' rebounding numbers have declined is that Melo is putting out a similar effort to grab rebounds, with similar instinct for timing his crash to the boards. Fields just has some new competition and it has affected his play. He'll adjust, and he'll figure out how to cut when the time is ripe.

Landry is a legit 6'8, so his size is desperately needed to supplement rebounding. Extra Credit to Bill Walker for crashing the boards, despite his 0-11, which I hope we never see again. There is absolutely nothing wrong with Fields that consistent minutes cannot fix. He is an excellent ballhandler. With Billups out, he can be trusted to advance the ball from the backcourt against light pressure.

He is young and has a great motor. He should play 35 minutes, minimum.

He dunks that same pass from Carmelo at the end.

Let Landry run!

Usually i'm mesmerized by everything you write, but this Fields situation is rough. He doesn't show that maturity that he did during the regular season. It's like his offense is not in sync. Everything he does looks rushed and out of control. STAT or Melo need to take him to the side and calm him down. If he can't contribute on the offensive end, he'll soon find himself sitting on the sidelines

I really don't have a problem with the fact that he's struggled since it's understandable that he'd have issues in such a big stage on the road. I think our role players will probably play better at home. That boost of confidence you get from your home crowd should help.

Completely agree. I'm not worried about Fields not contributing this year. But his playoff experience this year will be invaluable for next year. Fields is a great fit for this team (doesn't need the ball on offense, great size for defense) and he's extremely cheap right now.

He just has to gain as much confidence as possible from this experience and use it for next year. In the offseason he should just work on his jumper and defense and he'll be solid.

I expect more out of Landry -- and TD, Walker, all of our Youts -- now that we're coming home. Young players tend to be more affected by the difficulties and pressures of playing on the road in big games. I'd be very surprised if Landry didn't put up a very good game in one of the next two, and I don't expect either to be a stinker. Hopefully, that will lead to him getting his legs under him and doing well in Boston too.

Worst case, this playoff series is giving Landry, TD and the others some critical experience. Landry definitely looked overwhelmed by the moment in game two. Missing those first two FT's, putting up that airball. I don't expect that will happen again.

But as we all know, he hasn't been the same since the trade. Seems like he needs some run-outs to get himself going, and they're just now pushing as much. And in the 1/2 court, the spacing and ball movement still haven't gotten to where they were, so Landry doesn't have the room to operate or make his great cuts. Pretty sure that'll all get better after a full off season.

The D'antoni offense requires that at least 3 if not 4 players be standing at the 3 point line at all times. If FIelds cuts than Stat has to go to shoot a 3 and that's not what you want most plays.

Are you missing what D'Antoni is saying? He's not saying don't cut. He's not saying pick your butt. He's saying sometimes you have to recognize the flow of the offense and that Amare is making a move or is in a spot where he has a solid iso. If you cut at that moment all you do is draw another defender to the paint. As a PG penetrator I get this. YOu have to pick your spots. Watch Ray tonight. Man is perpetual motion. One of the best movers in the league. He still has many a moment where he stays the hell out of the way.

I just hope that people will like me
