Iron Man

Carmelo gets dogged for his physical appearance and his casual exterior, but he outfought multiple Celtics for rebounds in traffic. 17.

Carmelo played more minutes than anyone on either team (43:54), except Paul Pierce (45:01), who was not nearly HALF as productive.

Carmelo had 2 blocked shots and only one turnover. One. He was 10 of 11 from the line and had twice as many offensive rebounds (5) than anyone else.

sheesh.

Carmelo can improve on his physical fitness. He's 26 so games like last night are still possible. Ray Allen is Iron Man.

It hasn't been talked about a lot at all, but for the past 3-4 weeks or so, Melo has been absolutely stellar on defense, both one on one and helping out. I think he has 11 blocks and 9 steals over his last 8 games.

TymeLessKnicks - all Carmelo needed was some big city motivation. Like any elite performer, he raises his game to the competition.

Borg would be less without McEnroe. Ali less without Frazier. Nadal less without Federer. The Yankees less without the Red Sox.

Carmelo will be even better next season.

I hope so too. His game has definitely risen. It can get even better if he is in Amare shape.

What are the chances Carmelo and Amare work out together this August?

Excellent.

I would not be surprised if they led informal workouts with Landry Fields and the core crew in Las Vegas this July.

Yankees and Red Sox aren't really a rivlry. The red sox are just another bad team. Agree wit the rest of your post though.

TKF on Melo ::....he is a punk, a jerk, a self absorbed out of shape, self aggrandizing, unprofessional, volume chucking coach killing playoff loser!!

At the end of the day they are just #s and as great as his game was it makes the total lemon in game one hurt even more.

Best performance? Knicks are down 0-2

Jordan 6-19 23 pts in a game 4 loss of the 1996 Finals. Around these parts everyone is allowed a bad playoff game here and there except for Melo, of course.

lol... really? Bulls up 3-0 and you bring up a bad game Jordan had in 96 and compare Melo to Michael Jordan? Ooooooh-KAY

Anthony and The Little Imperials

"Carmelo Anthony coming to New York could truly be a match made in heaven. Fans and critics have seen Carmelo Anthony bring more than what was expected. All the negative rumors associated with Anthony have been thrown out of the window. We have seen Melo step up his passing and his defensive game. He has become the total package.

The biggest surprise in Anthony’s game has to be his ability to hit the 3 point shot. Carmelo Anthony was 33% while on the Nuggets compared to shooting 42% from 3 point range on the Knicks.

In the Celtics game the other night I saw a player in Carmelo Anthony that welcomed the challenges and would not back down from anyone (42 points, 17 rebounds, 2 blocks, 6 assists). At this point no one should even be thinking about the Carmelo trade. The Knicks have talent like Melo on their side and he will only get better."

- Big C

Carmelo will only get better in New York City. Imagine him playing with four starters who you recognize as decent.

Roger Mason Jr, Bill Walker, Jared Jeffries and Toney Douglas are not exactly The Beatles. Not even the Temptations.

fishmike - offensively?

What about the 17 rebounds and 9 assists?

C'mon son, you are being awfully stubborn with your gold stars.

Speaking of which, how can a player go 0-11 from the field and be +10 in the stat book? Bill Walker's line confounds me.

We'd be better off with Walker starting imo; his toughness against Pierce/Allen is needed.

Fields has shot like crap and isn't nearly as scrappy...

Its amazing... I cant remember anything like it. The people that were for the trade have actually convinced themselves that despite what people post on the board the majority of people that didnt like the trade are actually rooting for Melo and the Knicks to lose.

You cant make an observation anymore without people accusing you of some underlying agenda. The level of paranoia is impressive. Its a message board for a basketball team for phucks sakes

I cant even talk about Melo here anymore because everyone knows I am a hater and am actively rooting for Melo to fail here so I can remind the 12 people here who actually read my posts HOW RIGHT I AM about paying too much in that trade. Then my life will be better and I cant stop drinking and getting high to boost my otherwise low self esteem and people will like me more.

On second thought I'm off tomorrow and I'm getting loaded tonight, phuck everyone

Hey Fish, I'm a Melo hater too! But I gotta admit, Melo had a great game 2.

Too bad Jeffries blew the last play... he had a decent chance at a good shot and/or a foul.

Where's Fields?

Rose is not the answer.

ha. this is great. see i think part of the issue is we've never had this board cooking in the playoffs before, except for the one aborted series what, 7 years ago?

personally i go all magic johnson when my team’s in the playoffs. he used to say that he couldn’t be around any one when he was in the playoffs. he'd be intense and dialed in 24/7. cookie would make him sleep in another bedroom (insert your magic johnson joke here).

so when i come on this board after a heroic, legendary, gallant night like tuesday and i read comments like sure Carmelo was great but where was he in game 1 and calling his game 2 performance just numbers and dismissing the greatness of it because we’re still 0-2 . . . well, then i'm just gonna voice my playoff intensity a little and call out that cats are still speaking through their resentment of the trade right when we’re in the heat of battle, whether they acknowledge it or not. no?

I still thought you were dead. Or killed in a bus accident. I don't know why, it just seemed so poetically correct.
Hopefully, once in heaven, Jesus will help you with your sentence structure. And your self esteem issues.

Send closk.

By the way, the problem with the trade wasn't that we paid too much, it was that we were forced to take damaged goods back in Chauncy. So YOU ARE WRONG. Have a drink on me. Just say no to drugs. You'll have a better chance of getting the bottle to your mouth that way.

ok.. but whats the solution? Playoffs are raw emotion, its when your connection to the team comes out in screams and rants and chants. So what do you do if your connection with the team takes a hit? Its one thing to see a player or two you liked go. I liked Felton, Mos, Gallo AND Chandler.

Resentment is the wrong word. Its more like apathy. OK.. those guys are gone, and we have a new guy. I think most here have bitched and moaned, found their peace and moved on no? For me its been harder to just let myself get swept away by that new guy and this new team because the expectations are different. He's a $20mm a year all star game finisher who is supposed to be a top NBA player. When the young guys did good things its easier to gush. Melo (like Amare) is supposed to do GREAT things, and with regularity. We are talking about this being the center piece of a team that competes for a title right?

Is feeling dismay after a 4 rebound 5-18 effort in game one hating? Is it agenda? Let me say this also... if we WON game 2 after Melo's effort I promise you all would be forgotten and NOBODY would be feeling this stuff.

Its as simple as this: Melo needs to earn his pinstripes.

If I was a Mets fan I'm sure I would just love Melo for all his greatness. I'm not... I'm a Yankee fan, and to me Melo = ARod. Every Yankee fan knew Arod had otherworldy talent and was a big star in the game, but we want WINS and we want PLAYOFF WINS, and when you a top player in your league and the highest paid player your SUPPOSED to deliver.

When you dont?

The knocks come and thats part of the package.

EVERY Knick fan here is DYING to fall in love with Carmello Anthony.

for some it comes blindly. For others such as myself its what you see is what you get. Tell me again what we got?

Let me say I was screaming and rooting so hard my lady got suspicous that I bet a bounty of cash on the game! And Marv I get so nervous during these games I pace, rant and prefer to be alone as it makes me totally mental.

funny you say that, at one point i was screaming expletives so much my girl looked at me and said, 'honey, im going for a walk. be back when the game is over.'
