SSOL is about getting GREAT shots verses good shots. What you're trying to do is get the offense started before the defense gets a chance to get set. We haven't been running SSOL since Billups got here and barely did it before that cuz our PG's haven't been that great at executing it. Since Mike has been here we haven't really be able to run SSOL. In the real SSOL you see the team push the ball even on makes and the ball is passed up court to streaking players. We don't do that at all. Once in a while our PG actually passes the ball up court and you see them get it to a streaking STAT or Melo etc. But not anywhere near the frequency it's supposed to happen.

Wrong...If that's the case, we would be driving to the basket every possession...U can't tell me with the amount of threes MDA wants the team to take that they are best shots we could get...Come on Nix, you are not blind...U can't continue to defend MDA blindly...We aren't running the PnR aspect of SSOL but we are still trying to push and take quick shots that results in low percentage threes...We could ride Amare when he is hot, it's not a bad thing, MDA won't get cancer...

This is what drives me crazy with guys attacking Mike. Do you realize that his offense in PHX was running at 50%? They were always at the top of the league in terms of FG efficiency. They scored in the paint in a variety of ways. The only reason we aren't driving is due to our PG's not driving to the hole and not running PnR as much as they should. Mike's offense is DESIGNED to score at the basket early and often. If you don't believe me you need to get the SSOL playbook and study it. Look at the plays and follow the progressions and see what the primary goal for most of the plays actually is. The only thing that is stopping that from happening is our PG's inability to execute and that leaves us with ISO and 3's.

Jefferies and Turiaf are really pathetic on offense. I remember one play last night when Melo dished it right down to Jeffries who let the ball bounce off his hands when he should have an easy bucket. Turiaf is barely guarded by the Celtics. A decent scoring center would have no problem racking up points with that defense. The lack of production shows how limited they are as players.

i don't like mda, but he coached a hell of a game on Sunday (i know i blasted him at some point, i was just mad) - they lost because Melo had a terrible game and they failed to execute at the end, aka give it to Stat who was on. They gave it to Melo cause they got used to doing that, but in this game he was strugglin and Stat was going good. Billups got hurt too, so that did not help. It just a tough game.

At the end of the day though the Celtics had to dig deep to win a home game against us - that is a good sign. They relied on jump shootin gall game long, no inside presence from them. If the patterns contineu and we pick up our boxing out and execute the offense for 48 mintues we should kil them.

A glimmer of hope maybe?!?

Only adjustment I would have made was when you see Melo is off, hell even if he was on, I would have been using Melo and posting the he'll out of Pierce. Melo is one of the best post players in the league and not.once did he he get the ball on the blocks. Imo, Pierce would have had to exert alot more energy on the defensive end and may have been in a little foul trouble to boot.

good point. not to mention that that sets melo up to pass to a cutting amear as well.

One other thing I kept harping on during the game but this is probably more on the players. I would have pounded and ran the heck out of Boston. This may sound like a joke but I mean it in all seriousness. Boston is older. Alot older. We have youth and all the physical benefits that come with it. I think if you can make Boston tired they will fade.

MDA reponse to a question about getting Amare the ball in the last couple of mins.

"I love people that maybe didn't watch the game, because I went back when I heard that, and at the 2½-minute mark he scored a basket, and we went to him almost every time up to that point. On the next play we came down we went to him, and that was at the 2 minute mark, and he charged. Then at 1:40, we ran a play for him. They kind of knocked him off of it and overplayed him, and that's when Chauncey got hurt -- and he had an open lane to the basket," D'Antoni said. "You know, our guys can't be robots. They've got to play. But every play that was called was for Amare."

It kills me when some knickfans wonder (after watching mda as a head coach) wh we constantly shoot quick 3 pointers...this question has been answered so many times..and some die hards are still scratching there heads at the notion...its the shot that mda wants and (like kerr confirms every time he does a knick game) insist that you take..doesn't matter that amare maybe hot or it was a better idea to drive..it s the shot that's usually a wide open one.

Very rearly in this sytem you wouldd say that was a bad shot..I know the quick ones seem silly when they don't go in, but when they are dropping u can't argue the fact that the player got a good look..

Well if Nash is considered the perfect MDA PG we should have expected a lot of pullup 3s from him 5 seconds into the shotclock, but they were rare. I have a real problem with PGs who think, because their defender is waiting for them just above the 3 point line, think it means they're open from 28 feet just after crossing the time line.

This helps kick start the offense for the other teams you know GET THEM IN RHYTHM by design as D'AnToni said on the radio last week

Real Talk can a D'AnToni SSOL supporter raise their hand agreeing we play SSOL and if so on a consistent basis. We had a winning record this year, even scored lots of pts in games win or lose but in a good chunk of games we won can we honestly say SSOL was what allowed us to prevail?

D'AnToni's SSOL is one of the greatest gimmicks of modern civilization. He's like The Buffalo Bills of success and failure except less...more like Buffalo Thrills and Spills, where the Spills are rapidly catching the Thrills

Just curious, what is the significance of writing his name as such? Whatever meaning you're putting into it isn't obvious to me.

Ok I promised no more mda criticism for the playoffs. Do you think you could find it in your heart to tone down the mda d!ck riding just a hair? And I say it with all respect.

nixluva wrote:The good thing is that Mike is extremely capable of adjusting. It's not like he's Mike Brown and can't figure out what the C's were doing and come up with an answer. We're in a good spot cuz I liked the defensive approach we had. We rarely gave them anything in their set offense. If we can just rebound better we can keep them from getting so many easy 2nd chance points. That's how the C's really won the game. This is what tells you this team is gonna be bigtime when Donnie gets us some rebounding help.

Nope their style is based on timely 3s within the offense on drive kick. Gary Neal is like the only player who will pull up on a fast break and launch. Just because teams shoot the 3 ball doesn't mean all systems are created equal. Go look at the Top 10 teams in the league who shot the 3 and you will find about 5-6 teams who run totally different systems. The only team similar to us is Phx except we've taken away a lot of the fast break.

San Antonio also has less post scoring than in the past and rely on their guards to break down the defense with ISO sets out high from various sets to find shooters

We have low block scoring with 2 players who get a lot of their damage done 18ft in yet we chuck and chuck and chuck based on what defenses do out of the PNR or trapping

None.

Although I used to have many names for him ever since our GM referred to him as coach D'AnTonio, so I always emphasized the T along with other names.... a few being

D'AnToni Tony Tone

D'AnTony Danza

D'AnToni Braxton

D'AnTonio Davis

Susan B. Carmelo D'AnTony

D'AnToney Douglas

D'AnTony The Tiger

You forgot D'AnTonio Banderass.

I find the damn name hard enough to write as it is. Kudos for making it even harder for so little return.

I thought the suns, knicks, magic, and SA led the league in 3pt shots made and attempted...

Have you figured out why melo's 3pt % and attemps have gone up... no longer does he hold the ball and wait til the defense is on him, its no longer a last option shot its a first sign of day light shot..by the time you reach just above the half court line you already know your taking the shot..but the defense doesn't ....there back peddling. Its a rythem shot when you know ahead of time whenn and where you going to take the shot...and they practice that a lot.

Ahhhhhh Yes Banderas......with the Spaniard hard breath accent Doseki style.....D'AnToney Douglas "Stays Thirsty My Friend"

Well actually this is another small reason for me doing so. If I emphasize the T, it makes me pay attention to spelling out his last name. Of course we can take the cake route and go MD....lol but I don't want to ascribe anything from a Doctorate annotation towards....

D'AnTony Ray Anthony Candice Roger Parker Mason Hines Felton Ketchup Jr

Alright I'll stop....... I know I know this pissed posters off to high heavens when I'd do this as part of signature posting

Coach has to make adjustments....
