He may not be the lethal scorer that Houston is, but at the end of the day he is still a 50% shooter and 40% 3-point shooter. If those numbers can be improved or maintained as he earns a greater role in the offense, we are in excellent shape with him as our starter SG long-term. Many people believe he lacks the tremendous upside, but i think we need to be happy to where he is at in this stage of his career and can only assume he will find ways to get better. I still compare him to the SG version of David Lee in the way that he has a high BBall IQ to improve and maximize his physical tools into a very good player despite the perceived lack of potential.
With better defense, hops, rebounding(for his position) and last but not least, better sense of humor.
There's something to be said for this. I think Fields makes the team better with a rarely mentioned intangible: His awesome personality and Stanford-trained intellect. He's a smart, jovial, fun-loving guy who elevates the "atmosphere" around him with cleverness and humor and makes dudes psyched to have him around. In a FUBAR organization like the NYK, that's a wonderful quality to bring to bear. It helps alleviate the tension of playing for a moron like Dolan.
H20? A total dud, zero personality, nothing jovial about him. Now I definitely loved watching Houston shoot. He was one of my favorite pure shooters in the game. And I'll always feel a special fondness for that shot against Miami that clinched for us. But he didn't offer much else to elevate his team.
