We will know that Anthony wants to take his game to the next level when he comes back with an Amare type body- indicating that he spent some time lifting weights. This will give him the ability to play on both ends of he court without having to save his energy for offense.

What are good shots and bad shots when a defender is draped over him? So if he is being defended he should pass to the open man? Im pretty sure the coach rather Carmelo take a contested jumper than guys like Jefferies taking wide open shots.

I would rather watch Derrick Brown dunk than Jared Jeffries contest a shot by falling backwards

If I recall correctly, the analyst talked about "open" shots.

Perhaps a decrease in shot attempts through the use of some shot selection discretion is in order.

Maybe a few contested shots can be turned into passes. You choose Jeffries, which is pretty lame, IMO, because he is not the only other guy on the team, and we have other players on the team who can hit an open J.

Obviously, if you are exclusively an isolation 1/1 player, you will take more bad shots. Don't see why he can't make better use of picks and move around a bit more without the ball. Being in better shape will also facilitate this.

He has a quick release- if he makes an effort to free himself without the ball, and not just stand around waiting for the ball to go 1/1, he will have a better shooting %.

The same people who complained about Copernicus complained about Benjamin Franklin. The same conformists who complained about Elvis, complained about rock and roll and school integration. The same people who protested Vivian Malone walking into the University of Alabama, complained about Wilbur Jackson, until he started running people over.

Well said MisterEarl, you have truly stepped your game up to a, dare i say, "Melo" level of literary artistry.

Mister, Great rants man! Im not saying I agree or disagree but thats just pure entertainment!

As is anyone trying to correct who Attacked Pearl Harbor, or thinks they are shining bright to correct who is "Blutto" and who is Jim Belushi's brother is really wrapped too tight today.

When misterearl is on, just leave it alone! Sit back and enjoy it!

Jim Mora: "Playoffs?"

(dedicated to Nalod)

Scene: Knicks locker room before game one

Amare: [to Billups] Germans?... Miami Heat?
Billups: Forget it, he's rolling.
Carmelo: And it ain't over now. 'Cause when the goin' gets tough...
[thinks hard of something to say]

Carmelo: The tough get goin'! Who's with me? Let's GO!
[Carmelo runs out, alone; then returns]

Carmelo: What the fork happened to the New York Knicks I used to watch on tee vee? Where's the John Starks spirit? Where's the Patrick Ewing guts, huh? This could be the greatest playoffs run of our lives, but you're gonna let it be the worst. "Ooh, we're afraid to go with you Carmelo, we might get in trouble." Well just kiss my ass from now on! Not me! I'm not gonna take this. DWade, he's a dead man! Lebron, dead! Bosh...

Amare: Dead! Carmelo's right. Psychotic... but absolutely right. We gotta take these Miami bastards. Now we could do it with conventional offense, but that could take years and cost millions of dollars in free agent spending. No, I think we have to go all out. I think that this situation absolutely requires a really futile and stupid gesture be done on somebody's part!

Carmelo: We're just the guys to do it.
Fields: [stands up] Yeah, I agree. Let's go get 'em.
Billups: Let's do it.

Carmelo: [shouting] "Let's do it"!
[all of the Knicks stand up and run out of the locker room with Carmelo]

Carmelo continues to lead New York.

Before he accumulated his fourth foul the Knicks were percolating.

Rumble young man rumble.

You can write it off as creativity or art, but sooner or later you will have to come to terms with reality- poor shot selection and inefficient bucket dropping.

It's no secret that Melo takes bad shots from time to time. What I see is that he's taking less bad shots. Even the best of them take a shot from time to time that shoudln't have been taken. If Melo keeps his bad shots to 2-3 per game he is a much better player. Trade haters are always going to take jabs.

CashMoney - the three Carmelo took from six feet beyond the arc was a bad shot.

Even the Sixers announcers said so.

The only problem was the shot went in.

Exactly. Kobe does it, Lebron, Wade, Durant, etc. We as Knick fans complain about these shots because frankly, we haven't had a superstar in so long, we forgot that most superstars are good bad-shot makers.

For those who didn't already realize that any great offensive player who plays for D'Antoni can get better if they apply what Mike teaches, now you can see for yourselves how this has been proven over and over. What Mike does is get players better shots and if we had a great PnR PG, you'd see STAT getting off more too. This is all part of the plan. Just look at the shooting %'s of our perimeter players from 3: Melo 42%, Shawne 42%, Fields 40%, Mason 40%, Walker 40%, TD 38% and CB 32%, but I think some of that was the Knee injury. I think CB is coming around.

As for the way Melo is scoring now, he's been getting better at the catch and shoot and he's taking more inbalance shots that come with less pressure. That comes from the spread offense. When he 1st got here, the other guys weren't used to him and he wasn't used to the offense and they were all getting in the way and with poor spacing. Now you see the floor is spaced much better and before he or STAT goes, they let the other players make cuts and curls 1st and this keeps teams from easily doubling as they had been. Paying closer attention to what Mike is doing you can see how he gets his players such great shots if they follow the plays. This is only going to get better with time.
