Let me say I love what Shaka Smart has done too. He's also an amazing story and I have a lot of respect for what I've seen from him. He's a tremendous motivator and a very intelligent coach. But watching Butler these last two years I see a well oiled machine. I think that comes from the preparation and the strategy. VCU is a bit of organized chaos, but from what I've seen there's more volatility from their style of play. I'd need to see more to call them more than a cinderella.

I think Butler has proven to be the read deal and that's because of the coach.

good article about Stevens potential NBA prospects- is he the next Tom Thibedeau? It does irk me that the Knicks let a very good up and coming coaching mind escape their grasp, as was the case with Thibadeau.

Hey, our players don't really fit well together, so let's fire the coach.

Give me a break.

Hrad to say as he hasn't had a set roster in all that time. The guy deserves to coach a time with a roster that's been together longer than 3 months for a change.

Its an interesting take no doubt. I wonder how He would have faired with the likes of Marbury? Getting ZDump into mix? Dealing with the locker room when the diva expirings were upset over treatment Gallo was getting? How could he have handled 127 players in 3 years?

Stevens might have been a good fit on the Pre Trade team but this is a team for an NBA coach.

He needs an owner who would buy into creating a unique pro environment and perhaps stability would be a priority.

I don't think asking about how any coach would handle Marbury is a viable consideration. The man was insane. Larry Brown is the most experienced coach in the history of the world. Did he handle Marbury well? D'Antoni, Calipari, the list goes on and on...he was bad enough he got kicked out of the league.

I think when a coach is even keeled, when he's prepared, that rubs off on the players. Read what Boozer said about Thibs. Thibs conducted the walkthrough himself the first day of practice. That was a small action that drew a lot of favor from the players. I think players are divas, but they also respond to the coach's personality. I think in a lot of ways his lack of sarcasm and ability to stay calm are going to take him a long way.

VDesai, very interesting article you posted. He reminds me of the Russ Rose, Penn State womens volleyball coach, with his demeanor and statistical take on the game. Also for the fact that he really never played the game. Google him when you have a chance. There are some interesting articles on Rose.

So essentially no positives. On the negative end of things posters have noticed an inability to make adjustmetns in game or in season. lack of emphasis on D. Overemphasis on 3 pointers and shots falling as the key to success. Alienation of players and lack of communication with players. Inability to motivate players. These have been observed despite different players and have extended to players that have stayed when others have left. This has held constant even when given the same roster for 3 months or more.
