It does irk me that the Knicks let a very good up and coming coaching mind escape their grasp, as was the case with Thibadeau.http://bleacherreport.com/articles/646272-butler-bulldogs-brad-stevens-could-he-coach-in-the-nba-and-where-could-he-go
Its an interesting take no doubt. I wonder how He would have faired with the likes of Marbury? Getting ZDump into mix? Dealing with the locker room when the diva expirings were upset over treatment Gallo was getting? How could he have handled 127 players in 3 years?
Stevens might have been a good fit on the Pre Trade team but this is a team for an NBA coach.
He needs an owner who would buy into creating a unique pro environment and perhaps stability would be a priority.
I don't think asking about how any coach would handle Marbury is a viable consideration. The man was insane. Larry Brown is the most experienced coach in the history of the world. Did he handle Marbury well? D'Antoni, Calipari, the list goes on and on...he was bad enough he got kicked out of the league.
I think when a coach is even keeled, when he's prepared, that rubs off on the players. Read what Boozer said about Thibs. Thibs conducted the walkthrough himself the first day of practice. That was a small action that drew a lot of favor from the players. I think players are divas, but they also respond to the coach's personality. I think in a lot of ways his lack of sarcasm and ability to stay calm are going to take him a long way.
