This is complete BS. Melo is NOT the problem. Melo is a winner, he won at Syracuse, he won at Denver. The roster is unbalanced right now. Another "fan" who likes to hate and complain. Talk about a whinner, look in the mirror.

I agree! The team is playing bad defense and you are throwing Melo under the bus. Melo Just came from a winning franchise and they were begging him to stay. It is not Melo. It's the system of the Knicks and the same old sorry coaches and an owner who is all about money and don't care about a championship.Don't blame Melo for our woes, the problems were here before he got here. We have no big men and D'Antoni don't beleive in big men. Just shoot the damn ball 3points 3points.We have Amare banging up against a 7ft2inch guy and then expect him to score 25 points. Every team know our defensive game plan and they just move the ball around to the open guy. It is so easy. D'Antoni can't teach defense thats why he left his other team with a good winning record. He had Nash to run his team with great shooters. But no good defense and when he was asked to change his system he walked.

Melo's winning franchise is winning more without him. And remind me what Melo's winning franchise has one?

Cory Brewer was not promised 20+ minutes a game and was released. Again... Cory Brewer has been a POOR NBA player.

Lets see.. we have Amare/Melo/Billups making over $50mm but the losing is the coach's fault for not playing Sheldon Williams and Cory Brewer.

And papabear your just wrong about the above. He didnt "walk." Go do your research. Also can you please explain why MDA's Suns teams were better defensively than Gentry's? Cause the stats dont lie.

Fishmike, you are harping on semantics. Who cares about all the details - excuses. Let him play whom ever he wants! It's his team. But please answer this:

If the team is losing, there comes a point where the coach needs to go. So, when is that point? After 2013, when we had a full season with our new summer 2012 star? My point is, it is irrelevent whos fault it is after a certain point. What point is that?

so here is what phil is thinking ....

Well maybe if he played Corey Brewer who can actually play D or maybe give Sheldon Williams a little burn being that no one else could stop Hibbert why not give him a shot. Or maybe he doesn't advise his team to funnel everyone baseline when he knows that no one is waiting to help. Or maybe after a bad loss where there was no defense attempted whatsoever, he should not talk about shots shots shots after the game when he should be talking about defense defense defense or boxing out? It's always about push the ball, shots, 3's (30 of them) were not falling.

Why should Amare or Melo play Defense if the coach could care less. They need to shoot and fast and run and shoot. Defense? No need on this team.

This is to the point where its akin to defending Ray Handley.

these guys are pros... maybe MDA should take Melo and Amare aside for some one on one coaching on how to box out? Maybe he should bring them into his office and "talk" about playing harder on defense? How do you think that conversation is going to go?

Seriously dude... Ive enjoyed reading a lot of your posts but this talk is silly. Sheldon Williams is terrible and has had a terrible NBA career but its OUR coaches fault for not playing him? Thats your answer?

Wake up. We have two high scoring forwards who have ALWAYS been suspect defenders. Now its the coaches fault because they dont play defense? Just like it was the coaches fault for not getting Marbury to be a better team player.

Melo's last coach said he didnt play much defense also didnt he? You know Williams, Douglas and JJ play? Because they defend (someone has too)

Hansbrough drops 50+ on Amare over two games but Sheldon Williams is the key. Your gonna have to better than that

Papabear Says

If Melo was so bad why was Denver begging him to stay. Denver was a winning franchise and went deep into the playoffs and it was because of Melo. They had other guys playing defense. If you know Melo and Amare are not great defenders them surround them with people who plays great defense. Not 3 point shooters. If we had a good Center and seven footer who could defend and rebound we would have won this game but no no all we talk about is a point guard.

Denver didnt beg him to stay. They offered him an extension. Then they traded him for king's ransom. Melo is a good player. Thats never been in question. But he's a poor defender.

when you say surround him with big players who defend... you mean like a 6'10 Gallo? 7'1 Mosgov? Those kinds of players?

The question isnt if Melo is good. He is. The question was is he good ENOUGH to give up a truck load of good players for. So far no so good.

This year is most likely a waste. Knicks will be 7th or 8th and get swept in the first round (which will be the coach's fault, the players here BEFORE the trades fault, or Dolan's fault or maybe ISiah's fault)

Then with only a mid first round pick to work with, few other assets and no cap space it will be Walsh's fault (if he's here) for not being able to surround them with the proper talent to win. Then it will be the next coache's fault not playing career garbage players like Sheldon Williams and Cory Brewer. When will it be Melo's fault? Maybe when he's playing in China selling $20 shoes?

You forgot Corey Brewer. Can you tell me why he could not even get a look? Jefferies sucks - and his defense is waaaay overrated. Douglass has been getting killed overplaying the press (thats on the coach because TD should be told how to pace himself in the press).

I am not saying that Sheldon Williams is a playa but if I was a coach, and nobody could stop the bigs, I would give the Janitor a shot - hell - what would I have to lose.

You make believe that the coach/coaches philosophy has zero to do with coaching defense. This, I would agree is true for MDA but for many coaches, this is not the case. And, we can blame the players until we choke but it's always on the coach! If Marbury was stinking up the joint what happened? The coach(es) got fired.

Its easy to say that a hitting coach doesn't go out and hit the ball, but when his team is batting below the Mendoza line, he goes. If a real estate agent is not selling houses because of a depressed market, he is history.

ACCOUNTABILITY - NO EXCUSES!

Should that apply to players as well? Amare was scored on at will by Hansborough and Hibbert. Should he be benched? Melo not going for loose balls and rebounding in a better clip. Should he be benched? Putting Sheldon on Hibbert is not going to solve the problem. He is too short and Hibbert will just shoot over him. MDA made a call in that he would rather roll with what he trusts than going with Sheldon. You can't blame him on that.

Amare is not a center and those guys are bigger than Amare Amare is our strongest guy on the floor and thats a problem.Don't blame Amare put the pieces around him and Melo in order to win. Fields was the right piece when we had Felton, Chandler, and Gallo now Fields may not be the right piece for Mello and Amare starting. I really don't know for sure but one thing I do know if Amare and Melo are our guys we better put outstanding defenders around them.

thats is where your wrong. Dead wrong. 100% wrong. Did firing Lenny Wilkins make us better? Did firing Larry Brown make us better? Did firing Isiah make us better?

By your logic MDA should be given an extension because after however many years of losing he's winning more games than any other coach (two HOF probabables)

YOUR the one making excuses, and your making them for the players. This year when the team was playing poorly Amare challenged himself and the players to work harder and play harder. Great players do that. Coaches dont do that in this league. Players quit on coaches that do that in this league. TMac quit on Doc Rivers, Detoit has quit.. you see it all the time.

It starts and ends with the players. MDA isnt being outcoached. Our players are being outplayed. Wake up dude.

Fishmike you mean to tell me that you are comparing eight games winning to eight years winning?? Thats crazy!! When this Denver team play 2 years together and have a better record then when Melo was there then come talk to me. Eight games is a joke. So they won eight games What About It??? Melo won Eight years and won a National title as a Freshman. Don't talk to me about 8 games big deal. Miami won 18 in a row and then crashed.

Thanks for answering my question. Semantics! Context??

Where were you when Mozgov spent most of the season on the bench? He played the last few games before he was traded. Great! Showcase? Nice try - you should be ashamed.

And JJ? His one excuse for defense, do you remember when he was hear before? MDA had him shooting 3's. Worked out great. But don't worry, he will soon be popping again as soon as he gets comfortable.

I guess when you can't answer a point blank question, you revert to semantics! Sweet. "you said they need to shoot the 3. Weeeellll Jefferies doesn't shoot the 3??? hahahahah gotcha - Jefferies doesn't shoot the 3, Jefferies doesn't shoot the 3, Jefferies doesn't shoot the 3 - I win I win!"

Please ...

Here is the big difference with Amare and Melo. Amare would not question his coach in public. When he speaks he calls out his team and he includes himself. Calling out your leader during battle in counter productive unless you have a hidden agenda. Melo...Shut up!! Play some defense, rebound and pass the damn ball.

No Melo played 8 years with Denver and none of this stuff happened. You just want to blame someone.Amare is the one who will be suspended from games the next time he loose his temper during a game. Look these guys will come together just as soon as we get the right players around him.

Although Melo is 100% right in his observation what a Cancerous player he is.....Why is he chirping in the media? I never liked his game or his character, it pains me he's wearing this uniform. When you derail a team before the year starts that should be the tell tell sign to any onlooking team you might want to exercise a hands off approach. This isn't going to end well folks.

Everyone remember when the team started off rocky and didn't have their scheme ironed out as desired? What did Amar'e and Felton tell the media? They told them they have to step up that they would address things internally and get better.

Players know D'Antoni doesnt care about defense no matter what poster here say to the contrary.

Amare stated last year that D'Antoni never taught him defense.

Yup. But, it don't take no genius to realize that our Fearless Leader does/can not make adjustments. So glad we don't have to face IND in the playoffs with all their HOFers.

to me...the difference in the game was the offensive production from the center position...although i guess i should be grateful JJ did score 4 points...but his missed free throw was a killer. Hansbrough has been on a tear as of late...he's gonna get his 20+.

we need more production from center and Billups has to pick up his D on the wing...we desperately need a center

How is it possible that we looked so much better against Orlando? There are no excuses losing to Indiana twice.

i think the simplest answer is....Billups was healthy and JJ hadn't cleared wavers yet...so no JJ. Billups scored 30. Can't remember how we played D on the wings...but I doubt Billups was covering Nelson

*edit* Nelson had 26 pts...so maybe he was
