"For once, I agree with Mr Earl"

Say What?

Just for the record, here are ten "other" things MrEarl believes in:

10. The MSG PA announcer should never use the same intonation he used for Stephon Marbury on Carmelo Anthony

9. Donnie Walsh is the man. I hope his hip heals and allows him to walk without a mechanical aid.

8. Shawne Williams has been a valuable component in the NYK renaissance. MrEarl had no problem with cutting Junior.

7. Landry Fields will work on his shot this summer and yes, he reminds me (and Donnie) of John Havlicek, who I watched in person in Boston Garden, one hour before tip off

6. The Knicks 1970 white warmup jackets were the sh!t.

5. Raymond Felton and Ty Lawson on the court at the same time is kinda funky.. and klnda fun

4. Serge Ibaka is having too much fun in OKC with Russell Westbrook to think about leaving

3. Russell Westbrook was the pick to make. You could look it up.

2. Raising ticket prices by 49 per cent is just a first step to the MSG renovation being completed in 2013.

1. Marcus Camby would be perfect

Patience

Landry Fields has yet to play one full NBA season and has not played in his first playoff game.

Why must his expectations be cast in the shadow of the next coveted player?

Why is Oklahoma City suddenly interested in giving up their version of standing 7' tall and talented Serge Ibaka? He dunks from the free throw line and is gaining experience every day as a part of their yoots.

Repeat after me. "Fields is only a rookie... he is only a rookie... he is only a rookie..."

Fields on a team with Gallo, Will and Moz is different from Fields on this current team trying to gear up to make a run for a Championship...Player development is no longer in play...It's now about finding the right pieces to fit with the two stars...When the euphoria of a great find deep in the second round is over, it has to be asked how is he going to help this team win...Whats great about him is that he makes the hustle plays you gonna need to get you extra possessions in the playoffs...He plays a position that has some pretty dynamic players in the NBA...His man on man defense has to improve...We need some defensive minded players on that court for us to take the next step...Rookies wins Championships too...

Landry Fields Is Not The Problem

Having no player over 6'10 is a problem.

holfresh - what did you think of the defensive job Field's did on All Star Joe Johnson?

"Rookies win championships too?"

Care to cite an example?

Never said he was the problem...Actually I think Stat and Melo may be the prob not bringing it defensively every night..

Magic, Sam Cassel...

holfresh - c'mon son! You want to cherry pick one standout game by one of the best ever as a rationale and a watermark for Landry Fields?

The Lakers were a rare composite of complementary elite talent.

The Knicks have two elite players who were just introduced two weeks ago.

Fields can stay.

To match the quality depth of the example you cite, the 1979-80 championship Lakers, the Knicks need an elite center (Abdul-Jabbar), a quality backup center (6'11 Jim Chones) another power forward (Spencer Haywood) and a backup point guard (Norm Nixon).

Nothing cherry picking about that...He won Finals MVP...And being the Knick fan that u are, I know you didn't forget what Sam Cassell did to us his rookie year...
So you have a problem using Fields to solve our 6'10" problem?

Context

holfresh - your examples conveniently overlook the TEAM concept, which an essential ingredient of any championship team.

But I'll play your game, your way, jump in The Way Back Machine... and place the Stanford rookie Landry on the 1979-80 Lakers.

Fields, playing down the street from his hometown Long Beach, and being fed no-look passes from Magic, averages 19 points and 7 rebounds and wins rookie of the year.

He also steals the show at the victory parade.

We shouldn't trade Fields for a mediocre big. He's played well for us and has shown improvement during the season. If he can improve his handle over the off season, improve his fakes and his outside shot, he'll be a very strong starter next season.

Russell Westbrook was the pick to make for whom? The Knicks? He went 4th overall, we had the 6th pick. I liked him a lot and wanted the Knicks to get him, but OKC had the higher pick.

Otherwise, you've found some more things I agree with you on.

I'm with Holfresh. If you can trade Fields for a big man who can anchor a defense, you do it, otherwise, what's the point in trading him? He's cheap, good, probably getting better and contributes.
