i love billups for this team. he's gonna feast with amear and melo. he’ll control the half-court game. he'll run just enough. his scoring is gonna be huge. leadership - forget about it. i'll watch his D more closely but im not anticipating big problems there. plus he'll have carter and td to spell him.

Yesterday the Knicks made lots of jump shots. It was striking though how few easy shots they got, especially Carmelo. Nash would be great at creating easy shots for the team. The trade would be a major gamble though.

That is not something you repair with Nash

I think Billups is a better fit for this team than Nash.

At this point i think we are just better off with Billups. I think we are getting more playoff experience and he has more years remaining to play effectively. I also believe Nash will want to come to New York as a FA next summer and will back up Billups.

doubt it. 16 points, 11.5 assists, 50% shooting, that isn't a guy ready to be anyone's backup.

We are OK with a guy who can score and defend. You can knock Douglas all you want but we have been looking pretty good with him as a 3rd scorer and guy who defends.

I would rather get more size in here and work w/ the PGs we have next year.

I had to re-read what i wrote--with some of these remarks I thought I mustve said Mike Bibby or something. The pick might be good but in reality its most likely going to net us a back up. Now is an upgrade from Billuops to nash worth it--my bet is MDA would do it.

I understand your thinking. We have two great forwards and this is a win now team. That being said I think the best way to win now is to add size, and quality size. Look at what JJ has done for this team! we couldnt stop Cle, now we are talking about contending

You can't keep giving away draft picks. Look at San Antonio. What makes them great is their belief in their scouting and drafts. Parker, Hill, Blair, Ginobili. The draft picks are also cheap talent and its always better to root for home grown talent. Not that Nash isn't good/great its just this is an unnecessary with Billups here.
fishmike 9/27/2024 11:00 PM Ug I hate this. The idea of Towns is great until you see what a pussy he is. Jules is a dog. DD was a flamethrower locked up cheap for 3 more years. First Leon move I hate

arent all those guys 2nd rounders? They have drafted guys that didnt play until years later.

I have no problem trading picks, so long as you properly value them.

Walsh has done a GREAT job using the draft in adding Fields and Douglas (Rautins soon I hope???)

Nash would be a better fit here than Mr. Big Shot but PG is no longer a weak spot. Billups is a huge upgrade over Felton despite the big age difference. Anthony Carter is a very good backup PG that can give you 10-15 min a game. I would rather get a rebounding, defensive center to be Amare and Melo's bodyguard. Similar to what Oakley did for Ewing.

You are a frikken' genius! Grab some DNA from this guy...keep a couple strands on ice and clone him ad infinitum til we find a future PG!

Think Portland will lend us a strand from Camby?

Why wouldnt you want the best PG in the NBA? This is a win now team. Are you comparing Billups to Nash? Nash still has MVP numbers on a team of renegades. He will still be 15-11 50% for 3 more years with a team like we have.

3 things.

1. 15 and 11 are not and never have been MVP numbers.

2. Steve Nash is not the best PG in the NBA.

3. Nash is 37. He does not have 3 more years that we would give away a pick for. Chauncey is a much better fit for our team.

I do think Steve Nash is the superior player. That said, he has lots of experience with Melo (and the others). Considering how much turnover this team has experienced, I will take as much cohesion as possible, especially because Billups is a fine player in his own right. So, no.

Not to mention we need the pick to replace the sacrificed depth.

Knicks office must be pondering right now, if they should extend CB contract for next year or not. We all know, we must get a center. With the way Tony Douglous can play on his good nights, AC + Mason back at a vet mins, and with Rautins, hopefully developing. As good as CB is, we need to fill the our need for true big men. I am content with JJ as our back but bodies are always needed to be a championship contenders. We have to decide in the summer if we are trying to build contenders for next season or only give 1 year contracts out, so we can add the "3rd all star" in 2012. We have to be very selective and cost efficient because we have 2 players that will take up most of our cap.

My opinion is we should go for it all during this summer.

2011
Next year, Amare,Melo, and TD would cost 38m
vs
2012
41m those( TD makes 2.1) Fields will also be getting a new contract as well.
So I don't think it is worth the risk for a possibility to add a 3rd star.

He would have to come at a discount.
We can only add 1 year deals to our roster, diminishing our chances to add more quality for depth next year.

These decisions will have to be made this summer.
Turiaf can opt out this summer for a longer contract.
He would make 4.4 next year if he decides not to opt out.

Should we cut Billups and reshape our roster with a mixture of vets and young guys?
or keep Billups and use the MLE if still exist for our need for a center?
If we use the MLE, a 3 year deal must be made, which means we can't add our 3rd "star" by signing in the summer of 2012, possibly only with a trade.

If we do cut CB...
Should we go with quality or quantity?

Tyson Chandler would cost us probably all of our cap room and probably even need Turiaf to opt out.
Deandre Jordan is a younger version that would play a similar role but Clips can match and i think they would, unless we are willing to throw all of our cap room for him.

I think we could use a 6th man type player, similar to the production of Lamor Odom.
Caron Butler is a player that would be interesting. But a center is a greater need.

I think Shawne Williams has earned himself a contract worth more than the minimum and with more years. He knows this system already, can play defense, and can hit the 3.
If we want to keep him, we would most likely have to reward him with a far greater deal than he has now.
It would cost us more than the min and a longer contract.

would we have improve our team by adding one player using all of our cap room( then signing min deals)
or
diversify the cap room for players like the players under here and bargain hunt...
some of these players have a chance to sign at the Bi Annual Veteran Exception and vet min?

Yao Ming
Dalembert
Joel Prizbilla
Kris Humphries
Dampier

Matt Barnes
Pietrus

Delfino
Kapono

Anthony Parker
Delonte West

Also, if the MLE would still exist, Steve Nash would be a very interesting player to add in 2012.
Maybe we can even use the Bi Annual Veteran exception on Nash and use the MLE on another player instead.
