and Raymond Felton has been the best ex-Knick

Gallo was until the fluke injury.

disagree. he was nonexistent against the Celtics and had a monster game against the Blazers. And then he went out. That doesn't qualify him as best in my book

Against the Celtics, don't look at the stats. I watched the game. He basically shut down Pierce. Gallo got Pierce 2 fouls in the 1st quarter and another one right away when he entered the 2nd quarter. Pierce could not score on Gallo in that game. Gallo also guarded Big Baby when Karl went small. Gallo also guarded Ray Allen and he did really well against both of them. He also guarded KG in one possesion that caused a 24 sec violation and a blocked shot. He blocked quite a few shots in that game and contested a lot. He also moved the ball well which resulted in the right basketball play.

I know there were a few posters here that watched that game and they would all agree that Gallo played great despite not scoring but 2 points. By the way, he dunked on someone on the break for those 2 pts.

saw it, and right, don't look at the stats. I remember Ray Felton and Ty Lawson being on the court together for the final minutes, which is when the Nugs pulled away

I think 75% were in favor of the trade and if you went by media reports those against thought we could get a better deal by not giving up as much.

We liked our yoots.

In the end it became apparent Melo wanted the extension and Denver was created a market for him.

It will take two years IMO to understand the impact of the trade. What we do with Billups and his cap space and fill up the roles. ALso what denver does with its assets either on court of enrich its roster by trading some of its depth for better positional players.

TO say its "terrible" is equal to say "great trade".

The jury got a long time to figure this one out.

with more players moving during the trade deadline many teams are in a state of change. clev was waiting for Baron and we perhaps took them for granted. Twice. Utah looked awful and have big injury problems. We are still hurting but still put two starting all star players on the court.

Do I hate the trade? No. Never did. Did I think we overpaid? Yeah, based on what was reported but the logic just never added up for me. Now I understand perhaps better than if Denver pulls the extension Melo don't get what he wants.

In the end fair value was implemented and maybe its a win-win trade for both teams. Not such a bad thing.

I really hope this wasn't directed at me because I was on record a loooooooooooooooooooooong time ago that you do this deal if that's what it takes. When I say "TERRIBLE TRADE" it's me being sarcastic and aimed at everyone who thought the world was crumbling when it happened.

Wasn't the poll here like 80% against the trade?

It would have been a nightmare to have gone 4-4 with the previous team instead of 5-3 in the last 8 and have cap room to sign Melo, D Will, C Paul, or Dwight Howard while keeping Gallo.

Its not directed at anyone.

there was so much miss information regarding the parameters of the trade I don't think there needs to be much "Man up" for those against.

I was not for the trade based on the apparent leverage I thought Melo and the knicks had. Why over pay is reasonable position many took. Nobody disputes Melo's talent but for the first time in 10 years we have a team we like and mostly it was made of draft picks and two free agent signings (amare and Felton).

I make no excuse for being loyal to my guys and many felt bad after the trade. I get the talent we got back and perhaps our ceiling is higher so Im on board with it.

I just don't feel like celebrating before we do anything.

Knicks were NEVER signing any of the 2012 free agents and keeping Gallinari. His $12.6m cap hold stood in the way.

Great trade.

What Knicks acquisitions are better? Earl Monroe? Bernard King? Latrell Spreewell? I can't come up with another contender. I know the Knicks gave up a lot of assets in this deal, but Carmelo is every bit as good as those players but carried less risk. Pearl and Clyde played the same position. Bernard had battled drug problems of his own. Spreewell choked a bitch. I still maintain that five years form today people will need to look up the deal to remember exactly what the team gave up to acquire Melo

no way dude... Gallo is going to be a bigtime player. In a lot of ways he already is. Denver knew what they were doing. You just hope Melo is good enough that he makes getting the other pieces easier. Gallo could do some special things (like guard positions). He's totally inconsistent, but he works hard and you have to think he will grow out of that some. Is what it is... water under the bridge

In order for the Knicks to "lose" this deal, Gallo's career would have to exceed Melo's. Can't see it happening. Could see him making a couple of All Star games and be a very good player. I don't doubt that. I do doubt everyone being able to recall the full deal in five years time. Especially Marv

oh and my point essentially is that this is a no-risk acquistion, and that carries a price. You get what you pay for. I read on ESPN that 16 teams contacted the Nugs about Gallo at the deadline. There's interest. But I'll be willing to bet bartabs for life that when both career's end, Melo is perceived as the better player.

As with any trade, there will be people for and against it. I think it is a win win for both parties. I just thought we could have really won big time if we were a little frugal with our offer. Like fish said, it is water under the bridge. You guys should really not get mad if we still like Gallo. Like I said in another thread, you should be extremely happy with Gallo. Gallo is one of the reasons we have Melo here now.
