Um....I am not a Melo apologist but you are gonna start this thread from a quote-where he said he was also trying to get other guys going- after a game where he had the second most assists he has had this season (he had an 8 assist game and another 7 assist game) and he tied for the game high assists total with his own PG?

We play again tonight and I gotta figure Melo's eye wont be 100%. But we're a thin club. He and Billups are gonna have to tough it out and get chucking for us.

Milsap may be out. That helps balance out NY's injuries.

I thought five of his assists came before the eye injury- and it was impressive.

But this quote may be taken out of context:

"When I was shooting the ball, I was just trying to get it up and get other guys going.”

Am I wrong to read this as: I kept shooting, even though I couldn't see straight, because that is how I get my team mates involved?

Maybe what was implied or meant was: "When I was shooting the ball, I was just trying to get it up and [do other things to] get other guys going.”

I do not hate Melo- I like the star potential he brings.

But I am starting to get wary of his propensity to hoist shots when he is open/not so open. And I am a little troubled by the quote which might very well be taken out of context, or could be revealing.

Point taken. How many shots did he take after the eye injury?

Melo is definatly a volume shooter. Thats not debatable, and his FG% is on the low side for sure. He's got a scorers mentality that when its not falling he will shoot his way out of it. He (hopefully) balances this by getting to the FT line.

I havent loved what I have seen but he gets his time to adjust. Remember Amare's first month or so.. wasnt he averaging like 6-7 TOs for his first dozen games? If someone wants to look it up and I can promise his early TO and FG% numbers were quite ugly, and we all love Amare.

I was NOT in favor or a fan of this trade, but Melo is our guy. I liked to see him really working hard to find others. That being said our offense is really pretty bad right now. WAY too much standing around.

Yeah, the guy is a chucker, especially when he looked to dish the ball so much he lead the team, along with Douglas, with 7 assists.

The guy is our scorer so he will look to do that. Newsflash: he is human! Had migraine after being hit in the eye. Can you give him a break?

And that after a great shooting game. Figures.

I read that quote and wondered if anyone would comment on it as it took me as selfish to be honest. I don't think one can equate double vision and shooting with playing through an injury (and shooting). Clearly one is magnitudes greater than the other regarding putting the ball in the hoop, at least on jump shots. The smart thing for Melo to do would have been to set others up (which he did to a point) and also to drive as there is less room for error regarding his disturbed vision there.

There is another all star on the team and there is no reason for Melo to "shoot through double vision" - damn that sounds stupid. It's spilled milk now but I hope he keeps improving regarding his passing of the ball (which he has of late).

The guy needs a ton of shots..but we all new that base on the hundreds of debates comparing him, gallo, and chandler..he was shooting under 45% before he got here..I just know pretty soon you will see a less 1 on 1 player..I can't remember if Amare scored so many times of of screens with the suns, but he's exceled so well here, that I see melo doing the same thing once he gets comfy

He is an iso player who takes some bad shots. That's what we'll have to live with.

Agreed - and in taking those shots, or being a threat to take those shots, he creates opportunities for other guys on the floor. The ball movement and spacing will improve with familiarity and reps.

Yea... he creates rebounding opportunities. You do realize that Denver placed very good rebounders around him to account for this (Nene, Birdman, Kenyon) and they still couldn't get very far? Inefficient chuckers are a big negative to your team, no matter what.

Anthony was quite familiar with his team for 7 years and the ball didn't move. It's up to him to change his game up, or tweak it, so that he and Amare can work together and the team can have success.

That's true, too. Mike D'Antoni has a tough task ahead of him. Be careful what you wish for, Mr. D'Antoni (and Mr. Wade, too?)... you just might get it.

Don't worry when Billups comes back Melo will get back to putting up 20+fga/gm without second guessing himself.

how interesting is this one: "bulls**t"

the one thing he is a proven career scorer. his previous game - WHEN HE COULD SEE - wasn't he 10-16?

glad you want to jump on his ass for trying to play through an eye injury. also glad the ref didn’t even bother to call a foul on the play. Naturally it was that total prick whoreford who hit him.

So I take it that you feel strongly about this?

...And you do know that I'm not the OP?... although I'm strong enough to take your barrage.

i hope so. he's a major major weapon. his fga's don’t seem to have held chauncey back from averaging 23 points and amear 27. we are loaded and have to take advantage of our offensive firepower.
