The thing with the Cleveland games is I feel Amar'e is the most to blame for both the losses, moreso than D'Antoni (although we can probably impute Amare's bad D to D'Antoni's lack of coaching defense)
First game @Cleveland, Amar'e again puts zero effort in boxing out. Knicks get killed on the boards, particularly by Amar'es man JJ Hickson. It reminded me of the Minny loss against Love, where again, Amar'e didn't even hold himself accountable for letting Love beast on the glass.
Second game, we do better on the boards, but then Amar'e was horrible defending the pick and roll. You can't expect Toney D or Anthony Carter to be able to keep up with the opposing PG when they're using a screen. It's up to Amar'e to show himself to the dribble penetration to stop the drive, and then go back to his man once TD/Carter has fought over the screen and can get back on their man. Instead, Amar'e was caught flat footed on a number of occasions, allowing Sessions and B. Davis to constantly get to the hoop, or create enough havoc off the drive to find the open man.
So yeah, our original franchise star needed to step up more than Melo or D'Antoni in those games. But go figure, Melo and D'Antoni got most of the heat for the losses.
