I believe it's too late to grab a new number for next year anyway. Deadline passed.

Characterizing Melo as a one-dimensional chucker is simply one-dimensional posting.

In the category of PTS+REBS+ASSTS he ranks 10th in the league, bunched up there with Wade, Rose, Amare, etc,

And ahead of Kobe, Dirk, Deron, Gasol, Nash, Rondo, Paul, Gay, Bosh, Piece, Garnett, Joe Johnson, et al. Guys like Duncan aren't even in the top 50.

Melo will piss us off at times but I don't believe it will be to the point where we regret this trade long term.

Not trying to justify taking tough shots, but name me a perimeter allstar that doesnt take contested shots? (Wade, Lebron, Kobe, Durant, etc.)

Melo's problem is that he takes the most out of all of them...

This year, yes. For next year, nope. He is talking about getting Dick McGuire families permission since he already has Earl's permission.

If I'm Dick's son I would spit on Melo for even asking. Shame. Coward.

You can't post a thread and have a requirement that only positive views be allowed. You can just talk to yourself all day if all you want to hear are positive things about Carmelo.

To be clear, though, I do think he's a good player but he's also a highly frustrating player who could be so much more efficient on offense.

How does my calling him a good player fit with your belief that my view is always negative? It looks like you just want to hear nothing but constant praise.

I didn't post this. But the Subject is obviously an attempt to talk about the positives of Carmelo. There are other threads that focus on the negatives.

It's frustrating when people only have one view, and it;s just always negative. We get it.

Pts + rbs + assists? Why on earth would you add those numbers? Because PPG are much higher than RPG and APG, all that stat really does is tell you who scores a lot of points (and regardless of the number of shots they take).

"If I'm Dick's son I would spit on Melo for even asking. Shame. Coward."

orangeblobman - your anti-Carmelo agenda is fueled by speculation and bias. Carmelo was quoted as having asked Earl Monroe about the number at the press conference. Earl asid it was just a number and that he would be honored. No big deal. Most players understand the attachment that a number can bring and as Earl was cool with it, who are you to impose some sanctimonious value where none exists?

You are not Dick McGuire's son so you can spit into the wind all you want. Dick McGuire and Red Holzman never were aces anyway so it ain't no sweat off my nose. Big deal. You would never call Carmelo a coward to his face, so stay behind a keyboard with your petty insults.

Coward.

Get off your horse, because it's a pony. The emperor has no clothes.

Taking a retired number, or even thinking about it, is a spit in the face of the game of basketball, it's disrespect to all those who came before him, who played for peanuts before ballers made amounts of cash money most can only dream of.

It's an insult to the game. But I'm not surprised. It's just a damn shame.

The Holy Grail

"Taking a retired number, or even thinking about it, is a spit in the face of the game of basketball,"

Where is that written that player uniform numbers are sacred?

An insult to the game?

It's only basketball.

History Lesson

One of the 50 greatest players of all TIME, Patrick Ewing offered Grant Hill his retired number 33 when Grant was considering the Knicks as a free agent.

It ain't that deep.

It's not written anywhere, just like it's not written anywhere that you don't fart, ****, piss, and spit in public. It's called culture.

Of course there will always be people who spit in public, and they'll say "sheesh, it's only a loogie".

orangeblobman - "culture"?

You need to make a better case than simply using the word "culture."

It's a uniform number. Period.

Culture - the quality in a person or society that arises from a concern for what is regarded as excellent in arts, letters, manners, scholarly pursuits, etc.

If you go out and **** on someone's front lawn. It's only a ****, period. It's only a lawn, it's only property rights, it's only a front door, it's only a life.

It is a uniform number, that's exactly it.

Say What?

orangeblobman - property rights? A life?

Per your extended reasoning, the "thug" (your description of him) Carmelo Anthony takes Dick McGuire's number 15 and the next thing you know he is at your front door with an automatic weapon ready to loot your house, shoot you and take your daughters?

You are only sounding more and more like Glenn Beck.

Sad.

From a Hahn tweet a few days ago:

No. He had to file by March 1. It's retired and belongs retired. RT @RealRowen: @alanhahn can melo wear #15 next season? approved?

earl's being patient.

hey blob - an observation:

since the melo trade, you’ve been posting increasingly provocative racial comments.

lots of people on this board didn’t like the trade and have well thought-out reasons for it.

yours are sounding more and more base and vulgar.

if you didn’t like the deal because a white gallo was traded for a black melo, how about just saying so?

if that's not it, how about expressing yourself more clearly then? because you're sure giving a strong indication that it's all about a racial reaction for you.

Why is anyone taking anything blobman says seriously?

Haven't you learned that all he is doing is trolling you all for a reaction? It's the reason he got kicked out of here the first time.
