Bonn, I am dissapointed in you. I have stated a number of times that the term thug is a thing of the past, and it rarely gets used, because people who are upset about racism (And they have every right to be) find the term offensive. Yet here you are using it. Not cool.

I think it's a racist term and that's why I put it in quotes. (That doesn't mean I do like Carmelo by any means.) If you read the thread about "finding it hard to like Carmelo," or have casual talks with many basketball fans (especially in the southeast), you'll see that the term is not a thing of the past and pretending it (or racism) is might be convenient but helpful.

I'm talking about regular like though, not this message board. Yes, people use the term, but I rarely see it being randomly thrown around. Maybe that's just because it's a coincidence in my own case. However, if people are calling someone like Carmello a thug just because he's a little uneducated and they don't like his style of bball play, then shame on them.

Was Bill Lambeer a "thug"? Or was he "hood"? Which one?

Well I think it involves more than that!

Anybody that uses the term "thug" and it doesn't pertain to crime has a low IQ pretty much.

Hood is just a style. Thugs tend to be more violent. Laimbeer was violent on the court but I don't think he was gettin busy in the streets.

I'm not the first by any means to use the term "thug" on this forum. I just created a new thread to increase a discussion that had occurred in another thread about the character of a player who we've committed max dollars to for four years.

I donno bonn, without some setup and context and forethought, this is about the most useless way to start discussion.

Mo' money, mo' resentment?

bonn1997 - Why are the max dollars connected to any perceived issues of character?

Did anyone ever call Kurt Rambis a thug?

Kermit Washington was not a thug and he knocked Rudy Tomjonovich out with the hardest punch thrown in the history of mankind.

Or is this simply about tats, paycheck and West Baltimore?

No no no, we resolved that hood is a better word than thug. The focus has to shift on 'hood' now.

"We" who?

You started it. Now you want to sidestep to another place?

Where is (cough) "the hood" anyway?

Why would you make a thread like this? Are you implying the term thug is purely a racist term? Just would like to understand what the motivation was, because I'm not sure I get it.
Wishing everyone well. I enjoyed posting here for a while, but as I matured I realized this forum isn't for me. We all evolve. Thanks for the memories everyone.

Hood describes the sentiment better than thug, it's an adjustment not a sidestep.

The hood is where depravity and base behaviors are encouraged and positive, beautiful things are looked at with distrust and hatred.

"We" you, you and me.
