This is true. March 1 is the deadline to be eligible for the playoffs.

I was expecting the news to have been that the NYK cut Mason, not Brewer.

Maybe they're about to sign more than one player and Brewer won't be the only one we add to the waiver wire.
I'll wait to see how this all plays out over the next few days.

Another season, and more adversity to persevere through. We will get the job done, even BETTER than last year. GO KNICKS!

I don't see how Balkman was deemed more valuable than Brewer.

I like Brewer better than Jeffries. They are similar at this point, I guess D'Antoni was more comfortable with Jeffries. Brewer has a lot more upside I would htink, which makes it puzzling.

he has guaranteed contract in 2011 and 2012. Buy him out and his numbers stay on your cap at pro-rated reduced rate. Knicks will prob trade him at next deadline and include $3M and wipe him off cap completely, thereby being able to offer Dwight Howard $1.5M more

Brewer sucked on Minny so I guess they didnt have any intention of resigning him.

Wish we could have gotten a 2nd rounder or something for him though.

from Alan Hahn's Twitter

Confirming reports that Corey Brewer will be bought out by the Knicks. Confusing decision, esp since Knicks insisted on getting him. #fb

this is really stupid... but maybe we did some behind the scenes stuff... we insisting on getting this guy because we made a deal behind the scenes with a team where we'd buy him out so they could get him and they would have to buy one of their players out so we could get that guy...

like an illegal post deadline trade at a discount, of sorts...

lol... i don't know... but i'm desperate trying to make sense of this...

If it's some end around, and we've been planning all along what we are getting in return, I like it. We obviously have no need for Brewer.

But I thought the Melo/Chauncey trade was held up because we were looking for a taker for Brewer because we didn't want him. Since when did we insist he was included?

Knicks supposedly had a trade lined up for Brewer with the Celtics I believe, but it fell through.

Hopefully not. I'd think Walsh is smarter than this or it's part of something else.

Buike was one solid ass player when he was healthy. Dunno how much of his stride he's lost, but I wouldn't mind keeping him to see him healthy. Mason Jr is well.. Good for team spirit I guess

This is confusing. I thought Brewer would be a good fit. He is the kind of guy that needs to be on a good team so that he can fit a role of being a good defender. The only thing he doesn't have is a good outside shot. What is up with Mason and Rautins. I think Rautins and Brewer are the same age and one guy was a lottery pick. This doesn't make sense to me from a cap stand point or a roster stand point.

I think the Knicks are going to need to go d-league for a big and some of those guys, Adrien and Johnson have already been brought up and are playing on higher seeded teams than the Knicks.

Like I was trying to tell everyone we should have traded him for whatever kind of pick we could receive. Many were trying to pump this kid up as some defensive lock down specialist. Too bad we couldn't get anything more than a buyout from him. His cap hit was ginormous and he wasn't part of our future plans, probably could have flipped him to the Celtics for something during the trade....but after the fact becomes more difficult after teams make other moves.
