Dolan owns the team. If you are making a point fire Mike for his stupid assistants then why would the Giants (football) fire Tom instead of his assistant?
Football is different than basketball. In football you have an offensive and defensive coordinator and if a team falters in one department then the coach is blamed and fired. The head coach is consulted first before a move is made. If the defense was playing poorly than the head coach needs to either talk the owner out of the firing or agree with it based on what the players say.
There are no coordinators in basketball, just assistants. And they wont get fired because Mike D'Antoni doesn't want to fire them (especially his brother) and doing so would undermine him. He has been asked to add a defensive coach before, refused and resigned from Phoenix.
