nothing like taking a week to really think about whether you like a player.

cryzymdups - it's not about me. Likability will be framed by the press coverage. Take note of the vocabulary, and the expectations as Carmelo is written about.

It will not be dull

We welcomed Stephon Marbury with open arms. Number 3 jerseys were flying off the shelves. He quickly wore out his welcome and the more we saw him up close, the sadder the story became.

To describe Stephon as likable, after his first full season, would be a stretch.

I was describing a situation where a player went from villain to being liked in NY. Don't think Marbury was ever a villain in NY until he after he came to NY. The point is that at the time X had a bad rep and he lost it when he started helping the Knicks. I believe the same thing will happen here unless Melo goes the same route as Marbury and basically says "F everybody".

Strange, I do not remember Xavier McDaniel NYK jerseys being a hot item.

I seem to remember quite a few people on the street wearing them at the time but I don't know how the sales were overall. He was one bad mother. X wasn't in NY very long so he couldn't be expected to sell a lot of jerseys.

Dude, I cannot remember what number McDaniel wore, let alone anyone who ever owned an Xavier McDaniel Knicks jersey.

You're right, but he is a BB "celeb," and it is easier to get an idea about player personalities today than in the past.

I was turned off by his recent tweet where, referring to Karl he used the word "seize" instead of "cease." As a teacher he is now damned in my eyes.

Doesn't mean he wasn't liked!

Give me a break. He's already been a local champion. He's played huge games in the Garden as a college player and as a pro.

What's not to like about the guy?

Its tough to get over Gallo and Wilson being gone, but maybe we can get Ill Wil back next year.

Alan Hahn: Nate Robinson has been on a ridonkulous scoring tear lately (remember when he couldn't hit Jerome James with a Big Mac in early January?)

Timofey Mozgov is more likable than Gallo and Chandler combined.

I don't care what the record is next week, he is part of the solution not part of the problem

fishmike 9/27/2024 11:00 PM Ug I hate this. The idea of Towns is great until you see what a pussy he is. Jules is a dog. DD was a flamethrower locked up cheap for 3 more years. First Leon move I hate

Most Likable Knicks Rankings

1. Landry Fields - the Modells video says it all. He could star as a regular on SNL right now.

2. Amar'e Stoudemire - enthusiasam and passion, just watch those tech's my man

3. Carmelo - nice smile, photogenic, needs to work on his verbal skills and keep LaLa's girlfriends in check

Always loved Melo's game. When I saw him at the Cuse, I said, "Man this guy reminds me of Bernard."

The fact that we lost players I really loved...

Or that he just seems a little "cold" out there and in interviews...

Don't get me wrong, I'm for this trade.. hard to swallow but I'm for it... I am just having a hard time really emotionally embracing his arrival... hopefully it subsides moving forward, it's only been one game... Looking forward to tonight... Just wanted to know if I'm not alone here

Not at all. I am finding some posts irritating. :-)

Let's go Knicks. That's amare

Elite - you raise an interesting question about how fans identify and bond with individual players. What is your single most important criteria for LIKING Carmelo?

"Or that he just seems a little "cold" out there and in interviews..."

If interviews are a determining factor in your liking a player, you may be crossing into personality traits that have more to do with polish and vocabulary, rather than who they are away from the court. Reggie Jackson was not liked as a baseball player in New York. He was brash, "outspoken" and arrogant. On the other hand, none of that mattered the night he took three swings and planted three baseballs in the Yankee Stadium bleachers.

If winning trumps anything superficial, what happens when winning (using whatever watermark you prefer) is replaced by a losing streak?

It is a great question.

it is a good question, but Wilson Chandler barely spoke at all and he was one of my fav players I think its just you grow attached rooting for guys wanting to see them do well... I think my main criteria is does the player seem like they CARE about winning and losing as much as I do? This is why we loved Ewing, Starks, Mason, Oakley.. you knew it killed them when we lost.. Amare has that too for sure... Does Melo? Not sure yet but i sure hope so

mda needs to tell melo to stop taking contested long 2s... he doesn't shoot them at a high clip and it really kills his fg%... he should be getting enough open looks to not have to do that..

i think in time he'll get there... knicks took the least long 2's in the nba so i think mda is conscious about that...

his defense is a work in progress to say the least but it looked like towards the end he was trying.. we just need that the whole game...

I totally agree. If he'd just attack the rim and never shoot jump-shots, he'd be awesome. But you'd think he'd have figured that out by now.

guys he will never do that, that is Melo's game... he shoots contested mid range jumpers.. thats what he does.. u gotta get used to that... I would be fine with it if he played TEAM defense.. he does not
