Who to cut? Who to sign?

Many players will be available soon as many will be bought out. Some of the candidates will be Murphy, Jeffries, Ford, Pryzbilla, etc. We know there are other options like Barron and players from the D-League, but who to get?

And more importantly, who to cut from the 15 players we have?

A few options here:

Go 3 big: Sign Murphy, Jeffries and Barron/Pryzbilla. Cut Mason, Sheldon Williams and Bill Walker.
Go 3 with balance: Sign Murphy, Ford and Jeffries/Barron. Cut Mason, Carter and Sheldon Williams.
Go 2 big: Sign Murphy and Jeffries/Barron
Go 2 balance: Sign Murphy and Ford. Cut Mason and Carter.
Lower expectations: Sign Jeffries and Barron. Cut Mason and Sheldon Williams.
Go D-League: Sign Barron and best C in minors. Cut Mason and Sheldon Williams.
Stay put

Very easy.

Carter, Balkman and Brewer all stay for the time being -- Anthony Carter actually stays for PG depth and Balkman actually stays until I can get someone to take him in a trade (I'm willing to carry him over into next year to see this through)..Why buy him out if some of the contract would still stay on the books? That's a last resort 2 years from now if need be..Until then keep him around. Brewer can actually help defensively and I don't think he's as bad offensively as he's been this year..Dude's got some nice tools..He'll be gone after the year anyway..Let's see if he can help us now..I think he could be better than Billy Walker..

Waive Azu (he and his insurance-friendly contract didn't get traded so he can go now), Mason Jr (we now have Brewer who brings so much more to the table as a younger two-way player PLUS S Williams & Walker have always been ahead of Mason anyway). Shelden Williams can go too if Mike's already made up his mind that he's not gonna play (I'd personally give the Landlord a shot as a backup frontcourt player over Jared Jeffries but unfortunately they don't see it like that so that's that).

(1) DL C Marcus Cousin would be the first player I'd look to add (I wanted Jeff Adrien too but it looks like he's going back to GS). I like Cousin as a player and think he has good skills and a lot of potential. Maybe we strike gold here and come away with a very nice piece on the cheap moving forward a-la Landry Fields. Grab him now, he won't last long. Someone's gonna take a chance on him..Probably the Spurs who had him in training camp and liked him.

(2) I'd go hard after Troy Murphy -- in order to attempt to pry him away from Boston, I'd look to offer him a contract FIRST (beat Boston to the punch) as well as regular PT and possibly even a starting spot next to Amar'e & Melo -- I think he's going to Boston, they seem to have an agreement in place already, but I'd offer him those terms and see what he says..Donnie had this guy in Indy, maybe there's a relationship there that could work to our benefit & help the cause. Murphy's a fairly skilled vet that would fit in pretty well here.

(3) Bring back Earl Barron. Plays like a legit big man, he's already excelled here for this coach once before.

(4) Go get Leon Powe -- think he may be going back to Boston as well but if not and he's healthy he'd help out in the toughness category..Not that D Lee was ever a good defender, he wasn't, but it seemed like he always had trouble trying to guard Powe on the low block..Always seemed like Lee couldn't deal with him down there at all.

(5) Sign DL C Courtney Sims - 3rd best, maybe 4th best D-league big man..Dude was the MVP of the DL all-star game last weekend..He's a little bit of a plodder and slightly on the deliberate side in everything he does but he can score down low and he can crebound a little bit.

(6) Sign DL 4/5 Sean Williams - looks improved from when the Nets had him

(7) Sign 3/4 Joe Alexander - looks improved from when the Bucks had him..Showing nice rebounding skills this year

-------------------------------

Anything but Jared Jeffries -- dude can't play a lick. We could do a lot better.

I'd cut Roger Mason and try to find a big in the D League. Earl Barron is trash and so is Jefferies.

Leon Powe is my guy. Cut Balkman, sign Powe.

Isn't it weird that nothing has been reported from the possibly waived ones recently? What's up with Murphy? Ford? Jeffries?

It's sounding like the 2 cuts will be Roger Mason and Anthony Carter.
If we could bring in a Murphy or Pryzbilla, great - but I won't count on it.

Jeffries and Barron is fine by me.

Carter will stay. He's the only other PG on the team and Mike was praising him the other day.

Do you have a link by any chance? Not doubting he was complimenting Carter, but haven't seen any quotes myself. (If we can convince Ford to sign here, I'd still guess Anthony would be gone.)

If Mike's willing to use him, any minutes AC can give us at point would be huge to keep down Billups' minutes - still don't trust Douglas to run the offense. But at this point, I can't see Andy or Balkman getting waived, and I would hope we can make use of Sheldon.

Walker, Brewer and Azubuike play before him. He had his chance and failed. We need a few big men. Somebody has to go and he has had to go since he arrived.

Well' it looks like he is already in Mike D's doghouse and considering how stubborn he is, I don't see Sheldon playing in a long while. Hope I'm wrong.

Now, this is me believing Azubuike will really return at some point this season, but I keep reading that he is a cut candidate. If he was 100% or close to that, he would be a great addition to this club. But it seems he will never be. Sad.

He is coming back from a very serious injury (acl?). I think that is the main reason. I don't know if he gets any run with D'Antoni but if he could and he is able he would help the team a lot.
