At the Mid Level exception, Jeffries is horrible. At the league minimum his is a great pickup. He can guard so many positions, it will really help NY when they can put Jeffries on Rose or Rondo or Wade or Lebron.

I also hope they keep Brewer and Balkman for the same reason. Ny needs some on the ball defenders.

I would like to see MAson cut and a bulky inside type playing C signed. A Przybilla would be nice. Barron not so much. He thrived here last year when the team was in shambles and the season was over. That was not a true test of his abilities.

he was GREAT in the zone.. hell, he was the zone. He, Douglas and ShawnWill will be a really solid defensive bench

I understand you can't teach size and the Knicks are lacking in it right now, but you also can't discount performance. I don't know the reason why but Przybilla was doing NOTHING in Portland.

So much for going forward. Adding Jefferies is a huge step backwards, please wait for Murphy. I'd rather have him on the Knicks as he brings a better game and actually more what the Knicks need especially in the rebounding dept.

Murphy boards but his defense makes David Lee look like Ben Wallace. JJ played well here

Agreed. I'd rather chase Joel Pryzbila and Leon Powe for their defense than Troy Murphy for his shooting/rebounding. Troy Murphy is not a banger at all. Jeffries at least is a decent shotblocker and clogs the paint and gets charges - which sounds lame, but all parts of good defense.

Murphy fits the team okay... but so does Jeffries.

Jeffries would be a good pickup here.

Expecting to find a starter on the waiver wire at this point in the season is kind of insane. Jeffries can platoon at center with Ronny Turiaf and play some good D. It'd be nice to get someone with a little more size like Barron or Powe or Pryz to deal with the Dwight Howards and Joakim Noahs of the East.

Real glad we don't have to worry about Kendrick Perkins anymore. Can't believe the Celtics traded that dude!

Last year before the TMac trade the Knicks were starting to play pretty good ball and the team defense was very solid with TD starting to get minutes and JJ taking up 1/3 of the floor on zone defense. His ability to guard multiple guys and really lock people up when you press is why Isiah signed him. It was too much money, too long and too many years, but JJ is very good at his role. The problem is you really have to have solid scoring around him because he's so bad on offense.

Not really an issue as 75% of our shots will be taken by 3 guys.

what we need are lunch pale guys that defend, rebound and do the little things on offense like set picks, etc

I like this move. Low to no risk. Fields/Brewer/Jefferies/TD/Shawne Williams all play scrappy D. If Amare and Melo have those games where they're fighting really hard on D too...

Would love Chuck Hayes but Rockets know his value to that team..gives Amare fits

Let's try to elevate the level of discourse in this byeetch. Please

Newsflash: Jeffries is not a center.

But maybe if we say it enough times it will become true:
Jeffries is a terrific defender and can plug our hole at center.
Jeffries is a terrific defender and can plug our hole at center.
Jeffries is a terrific defender and can plug our hole at center.

When Isiah signed JJ, his role was vague and large. Under Prongles, he wasn't asked to really exceed his skillset, though was still a big part of the rotation. Now, the scope of his role will become even more specialized, and will suit his strength just fine.

This team needs another star and specialists. Houston is letting a good specialist go because they need Jeffries roster spot to do more, because their roster sucks

I don't get this move. We don't need another SF. We need a center that can rebound and defend the paint.

he was the Knicks' best defender when he got shipped out and he knows the system. I would've went a different route but don't dislike this either

I think D'Antoni's system has worked well this year, particularly when all 5 players on the court can score. The Knicks played better when Turiaf was looking for his shot.

JJ is a terrible offensive player. Don't know what happened between his last year @ Indiana and now.

Maybe we are picking up 2 players - Jeffries and a center - probably Barron.
At least these 2 guys are not injured. Many of the other names thrown around are/have been injured - Przybella, Powe.

Which means that we have to cut 2 players - Balkman and one of Azu or Mason (we have 4 SG - Fields, Walker, Azu, Mason) We keep Carter as our 3rd PG and TD can also move over to SG so we'll have 6 guards which is a good balance.

Is there a defensive center available?

If not, then what's wrong with signing a low-cost defensive 6.11 guy?

Hahn just tweeted Azubuike might actually be close to playing.

Mason is certainly #1. Knicks seemed committed to Rautins. They won't give up on clearing Balkman's cap off the 2012 books. Carter could have killed this deal (he has to waive his Bird Rights) and I don't think the KNicks will punish him for it (unless he knows there is another team out there that would give him more PT).

IF they bring in two big men, I think Williams might be the one to go.

Can't wait for the groans to (re)start when JJ2 airballs an 8-foot shot or clanks it off the bottom of the rim on a layup.

Shoot me now.

I hate Fishlips more then anyone in the NBA

But

He is 6'11 hustles and does not need to score with this team. He already knows how to play here!

Ohh and he comes for free.

He will help more then hurt

KNICKS on the way UP!!!
