you guys are going a little over-board with this sense that Jefferies can't play defense at the C position. What teams have bigs that would give him a difficult time? In the East, Howard? Who else? Lopez? In the West, prob Lakers, Spurs, Dallas.

Jeffries is not a rebounder. Fine, he plays defense but so does Turiaf and he can't grab boards. We need a pure rebounder in here. We should sign Powe. Guy may be 6'8 but he plays like 7'8.

Keep your eye on the bigger picture that MDA is probably looking at. Rebounding is definitely a weakness, but so it team defense, which is probably more important to him.

The reason KG makes Boston so good is that he himself is a great defender but he is also an orchestrator of that defense. Turiaf provides that role some to NY and so will Jefferies.

Guys like Sheldon and Powe have OK skills that fit a very narrow scope of what a team needs, and so does Jefferies to some extent. But what Jefferies can also do is help make Amare and Melo better defenders by helping them understand what THEY need to do. Billups will fill this role nicely too, both on offense and defense, as we have already seen in 1 game with Toney Douglas.

I don't want to overstate what Jefferies can bring defensively, I know he is limited and will prob only play 15 minutes max on this team, but generally he knows what he can do and how to help others do the same, and that's his value.
