in my best misterearl:

Proof you have won a trade in the NBA:

If the opposing GM, when discussing the trade, says, "It's just sports, people."

Carmelo Antony is The Most Interesting Man in the World.

Not a crazy comparison, IMO, especially when you look at the defensive limitations of Melo and Amare.

I was a fan at the time, and had not realized how indifferent McAdoo and Haywood could be on D at times (especially McAdoo). Both had shotblocking abilities, but neither seemed to put in the extra effort guarding their men.

Those Knicks teams had better supporting talent than we have now, by the way.

The combination of poor D and average rebounding from 2 of your 3 front line players will lead to trouble, and based on the Denver games I've been watching on the League Pass archives, some of you are going to be surprised at Anthony's complete lack of intensity on D, and his invisibility on offense when he does not have the ball.

...But then that is something you will have to see for yourselves firsthand.

JesseDark - you are the man.

Palladin - if you are wise enough to remember the NY Titans at the Polo Grounds, you are also wise enough to remember the marquee in front of the old Garden. Your perspective is rare and built on first hand observation - not third hand reporting.

nychamp simply brushed off the comparison of the two trades without any background information or facts to back his opinion. That is not only sad, it is lazy. Not a single comment actually countered on the substance of the trade, or the striking similarities - they would rather mock The Answer Man. But hey, The Answer Man has been thrown out of better places.

Meanwhile, back to the NYK and "hitting the open man."

As we learned during the Kurt Thomas years of number 40 playing center, when your tallest player is 6'10, it is not a recipe for defending the paint. Especially in the playoffs, where the game is dialed down to grinding inside, you need rebounding and you need coordinated intensity on defense.

It also helps to have a seven footer to handle a switch. Denver sources have stated that Carmelo likes to use that word a lot.

History repeats itself.

This is not working and the signs are apparent. The Knicks must find six to eight new basketball players.

The most important positions are lead guard and center. The Knicks have neither. These also happen to be the most difficult positions to fill. Any assumption of salary cap or available players is pure delusion. There are no free agent centers walking the streets and Sheldon Williams should not be on the roster.

The Answer Man Digs Road Trips

Q. briggs - how do we find all of these players?

A. It will NOT be easy. Some random thoughts. Forget free agents. Think Oklahoma City and its yoots.

First, by being absolutely perfect in the 2011 and 2012 drafts. Jonas Valanciunas and Lucas Nogueira would be cool. Second, by getting as lucky/best available advice from scouts like Ben Jobe for an unheralded second rounder like Landry Fields to contribute in the backcourt. A longshot at best. Third, with just one summer league reclamation project showing up to go to work. Maciej Lampe works for me. He will not be perfect but hopefully he can play at a fast pace and drive through traffic without turning it over.

Last but not least, by keeping Shawne Wiliams and Derrick Brown. 6'9 and 6'8. No more shrimps.

Next year is an extended training camp to the build cohesion that is missing. Year after next, a pre-season team trip to Lithuania would provide an opportunity to bond (as Italy was this pre season) to meet and greet the family of Valanciunas.

By 2012-13 we should be straight.

That is, ONLY if the Dolan's (fueled by non-stop press speculation) don't get impatient and greedy for the next shiny object again.

Donnie has done a good job of finding decent players with limited resources - Mozgov, Fields and Shawne Williams - none of them cost a first round draft pick.
