What did the Heat give up for Shaq? The Celtics for KG?

BOSTON - The Boston Celtics announced today that they have acquired 10-time All-Star and 2004 MVP Kevin Garnett from the Minnesota Timberwolves in exchange for Ryan Gomes, Gerald Green, Al Jefferson, Theo Ratliff, Sebastian Telfair, a 2009 first round draft pick (top three protected) and a return of Minnesota's conditional first round draft pick previously obtained in the Ricky Davis-Wally Szczerbiak trade. Minnesota also receives cash considerations in the deal.

I'd say we paid a similar price to what Boston did for KG in the Melo deal.

You can act like we could have waited for summer, but it was obvious that Melo wanted the extension. To get him, we had to pay. The fear of a lockout was a big part of this trade.

This is the definition of a heart/head conflict.

My heart laments the departure of likable players like Wilson Chandler, Felton, Gallo and Mozgov.

My head understands that a) this is a superstars league, b) Miami, Chicago and Boston could not be beaten in a playoff series with our current crew, c) Melo on board is even more attractive to free agents and d) no one we just traded has been consistent this season.

I'm excited.

"I can not say all the secrets."

The worst trade is the Ewing trade period. That is the trade that set NY back for 10 years. The Curry trade wouldn't even happen if Ewing retired a Knick. This Melo trade even though I know they gave up a lot....Knicks have Melo!!!! Take that Lebron!
Knicks are happening and have a Unicorn.

This is silly, knicks have 2 all-stars. We were a .500 team, we traded role players for a superstar.

I think you put way to much value on those prospects.

No where near as bad as Marbury trade or Curry trade which doomed us into oblivion. In those trades we ended up with never was' or never would be's.

At least here we have 2 guys who started in the all-star game, an old, but former all star PG and a promising wing guy. And hopefully we'll have money to add another big guy- we'll see.

It was too much to give up but what we ended up with was huge. Carmelo has a 25 ppg scoring average for his career. That is rare. He's 26 and has been doing this for 7-8 years too.

+1

it might not even crack the top 3 for the past decade.

McDyess for Camby + Nene

ECurry for 2 lotto picks (became LaMarcus Alrdridge and Noah)

Marbury for 3 draft picks + cap room galore

Melo is 3x's better than any of the players we received in those deals.

Bogus. Marbury was considered almost as big a star as Melo is, at the time we acquired Marbs.

Wishing everyone well. I enjoyed posting here for a while, but as I matured I realized this forum isn't for me. We all evolve. Thanks for the memories everyone.

LMAO...Whats championship? NIT? Give me a break this was an average team at best. Dont overrate the team just because we stunk for 7 straight years and managed to climb 2 games over .500.

Agree 100% as Bill Parcells used to say "you are what your record says you are" and we were a barely above .500 team with a lot of very likable complimentary parts surrounding 1 superstar carrying a huge load. This is a league where stars come at a premium both in trades and FA and now we have two. If our biggest problem now is finding other pieces o compliment the
I can live with that.

It's a different situration. The league contract is up and a lot of changes is coming. If it was not because of that Melo would have waited Just like LeBron and Bosh. But he was due to loose a lot of Money. If push came a shove he would have to sign for 3 years with the Nets or Denver.

when did gallo, chandler, felton become superstars?

Whether you like Melo or not, his stats don't lie. He's got the rest of his knick career to define his legacy.
Dude has skills!
We got 2 all-stars, 1 veteran pg. We can make some noise in the playoffs.

Melo was on Dream Team, perennial All-Star..has carried his team to 50+ wins almost every year, Won a NCAA title damn near by himself, gives Lebron fits on the offensive end..He is indeed a Superstar. Not even close..there is Kobe, Lebron, Wade and Melo just below that 3.

Agreed.

Melo is 15-2 against Lebron in his career. 15-2.

You want to beat the Heat? Carmelo Anthony might not be a bad place to start.

Marbs was a headcase who was supposedly to rejuvenate his career by playing for his hometown Knicks. How did that work out?

Different, Marbury was leaving his 3rd team. He had issues, could still play, but had issues. We took a chance, and lost it in the truck
