I CALLED IT! I said a few times on the board the Lakers would probably offer Bynum. don't know if this is one of those "makes too much sesne so I'll quote an unnamed source" type deals or not, but yep. Use the search function if you doubt it

A report from ESPN on Tuesday indicated that the Lakers and Nuggets were holding preliminary discussions about a trade involving Carmelo Anthony and Andrew Bynum.

"What's out there is inaccurate," said a Lakers representative familiar with the negotiations.

Denver is also in discussions with the Knicks, the team Anthony is reportedly set on playing for by the 11-12 season.

(Buss's son is the guy who drafted Bynum and wont trade him)

The quote says "What's out there is inaccurate" . Im pretty sure they didnt indicate what aspects are inaccurate.

The way the Jacked Gasol from thr grizzy, I wouldn't be surprise if this deal happens..But melo playing along side kobe in a complicated triangle offense that has no busniess with 2 perimeter players...hm..Thats chaos.

The lakers would lose to the thunder

How does a deal with the Lakers clear any cap space (or significant cap space) or get them a worthwhile 1st round picks? The Laker picks are all going to be really late first round, not the dwelling of difference making talent, or at least not of a player that would be in line to replace Melo.

Bryant is under contract for 20+ million per for the next 3 yrs. Lakers know they need help on the perimeter.

- Any picks we send to Denver would likely be just as low.
- Bynum has more trade value because he is a center. PG's, C's, and SG's who can shoot go for a premium.

C's with knee problems don't have trade value.

Odd? People here have a hard on for Camby and he is ALWAYS injured. Same goes for Oden.

Kaman is injured alot too. Bogut is injured alot too. Yao was often injured too. The list goes on and on.

Has Melo ever expressed an opinion about going to LA, or would he just be a rental for them?

Yea, the triangle offense with 2 perimeter players like Jordan and Pippen would never work.

great, besides Camby, you listed C's who are injured and never been traded. And none of whom really match the knee injury to Bynum.

Fear the Lakes because it looks right now all the tickets for this season are sold.

Phil Jax is retiring and at the moment the Lakes don't look like a championship caliber team.

So the Lakes SHOULD be looking at the next 5 years. IN LA you have the upstart Clips with a star and the Lakes have enough championships. ITs not about winning its about the entertainment factor.

If I am the Lakes I do Bynum for Melo, Then I turn around and call up Prokhorov and get a deal for Favors and a pick for Kobe. I got Odom-Melo-Pau as a core for a while and Favors with a Pick for the future.

Prokhorov gets his star attraction.

Forget basketball for a moment and consider the starphuch:

Kobe > Melo

Kobe > Stat

Kobe is in NYC. SHORT TERM the Russian Sticks it to Knicks.

Do I want this to happen. Hell no. Does it make sense from a basketball sense? No. The lakes stay relevent, the Nets become relevant and the Nuggs can even do a three way and not even land Bynum. Maybe Kahn takes him and give Denver Rubio and other pieces.

But this is the business of entertainment.

I can see Dolan getting rid of Walsh because Walsh might actually want to win and Dolan just wants a starphuch entertainment product thats enough to stay interesting (IE profits) than a championship. Like the 1990's was.

Melo alone won't do it. Its fun, but he alone won't get it done.

Don't forget the Lakers already traded their 1st round pick this year to the Nets. I can't remember if they are owed any future picks

Last time I checked none of them were rumored to be in a Carmelo deal. None of them are 23 either. Doesnt matter the issue the point in they miss games.

Kaman always had an assortment of issues that resulted in him missing games and he was a 20 and 10 center. Bogut has a bad back and migraines.

Bynum has trade value. Centers dont get traded because they are hard to replace. The same goes for PG's. I suppose you didnt notice how Horford and Noah never reached free agency.

Bynum plays 40 games a year. They are not helping a team without getting better.

They could just as easily call the Clippers and get Deandre Jordan and Eric Gordon; and then turn around an move Nene and Billups in seperate deals for additional picks and a younger players and have some cap roomn in the offseason to grab a good wing player.

Yes, because Carmelo would turn down signing in extension to play in Los Angeles with Kobe and Gasol.

Isola also had this line in his article:

The News has learned that Jim Buss, who holds the title of Lakers VP of Player Personnel, rejected a deal for Anthony, who would gladly sign an extension with the two-time defending champs.
