Whats huge is when they had Rogers waiting in the wings when Farve sor of retired the first time. Im not saying Packs got huge value from the JEts in that trade but if you can trade your aging player for yoot and let old player contract expire then you are going to rebuild a lot faster. Think how good we could have been if we let Ewing expire or traded him two years sooner.

Thats what i mean, with the ewing thing, even if you traded him be smart about it.

I personally don't really prefer building through the draft, and thats because i see so many franchises get it wrong, then you see a franchise like the Thunder/sonics trade there star player (ray allen) for picks and draft some really good pieces, grab a coach that would be able to work with his players and go from there.

Giants didn't give up on him--they were LOADED at the position. The Giants RBs were a huge reason why the team won the Super Bowl the same season they traded Grant. So they probably would've cut him because of how many backs they carried and were able to get value for him.

I know that's not your point but that was the deal

Farve's "Vintage" late game INT against the Giants in the conference title game is why the giants went to the superbowl..Although they were stack at the RB position...But look at the RB they got for a 6th rnd pick..peanuts

Of course I'm going to disagree with you there. I'll say the reason the Giants went to the Super Bowl is because they had one of the best defensive lines in NFL history. And the only reason Favre had a "vintage" game is because of missed FGs on the Giants side.

As for getting a sixth round pick, that's a low price knowing how good he's gotten. But the Giants got a sixth rounder for an undrafted player with less than 20 rushing attempts in the preseason. He was good, the Giants knew he was good, but they got a sixth rounder for someone they didn't sepnd anything on to acquire. At the time it looked like the Giants got a bit of a steal. Glad it worked out for y'all.

Building an NBA team is not the same as building an NFL roster.

80% of the spurs roster were drafted by the spurs, they usually pick up one maybe 2 mid level players during the off season..

The spurs had the good fortune of David Robinson being hurt and sucking then they got Tim Duncan. A player who has been dominant for a decade. They scouted well internationally at a time when folks werent doing it well. Got two gems. Theyve done a few big things fabulousdly correct, and they have a great coach and good organizational culture.

Football is just such a diferent beast. All of the good teams have drafted well and made good moves through FA or trades. We need to do both.

Its true, the giants defense should have been the MVP, Eli played ok, made some key plays, but that Defense is what got us there and won it. Brady was constantly under attack and was off as a result.

If Eli doesn't bring the Giants back your not even talking about that super bowl today. He made the big plays when the team needed it the most with their last drive.

There is no question, but I think the Defense was the MVP of that game.

100 percent agreed. Justin Tuck was the best end on that team and he was the third one in the rotation. That's not a knock on Usi and Strahan, they had career years too. Not to mention, the DTs were wildly underrated and opened up holes for safety and MLB blitzes

The defense for the giants was damn good, but i'm a not a big fan of the "DEFENSE WINS CHAMPIONSHIPS" it's over rated...A potent offense can over come what ever you throw at them...I understand MDA's philosophy...

The steelers was suppose to have the best defense, had the defensive player of the year in TROY P...james harrison, if there weren't so many drop passes, that game could have easily been a blow out.
When you have a offense that executes like clock work, what the hell can any defense do.

Ironically Charlse Woodson was the Defensive player last year, and the pack had the #2 overall defense #1 against the pass, yet we gave up 51 point to AZ, 400+ yards for a aging Kurt warner. They played us a week before that Wild card game, scouted us perfectly, then executed and expose every single hole.

I'll agree with you there, but in the Giants case, it won them the Super Bowl. I will put htat pass rush up against anyin the history of the game. As it turns out, that's the only way anyone could've beaten the Pats that year--to have an uber-elite pass rush
